I have been buying this off and on for 25 years. Recently my hair had become a mess, no matter what I used on it, there was just no way of knowing how it would look. Learned that many of the products I have been using that made my hair look great contained silicones that will make hair wonderful for a while, then suddenly worse than straw.... Clarified my hair with baking soda, then vinegar rinse, then used the hask packet, and HELLO HAIR. Today skipped shampoo, just worked some of this through my hair and left it on for a few minutes and rinsed, STILL LOOKS GREAT, feels like my old hair again, hardly any of the broken look with little pieces sticking out. Now a steady diet of this product, the leave in conditioner, and silicone free shampoo.

I put this on my hair after shampooing, waited 10 minutes, rinsed, then conditioned. All I have to say is my hair has never been softer. I love this product. The only thing I hate is the smell. But the good thing is that the smell goes away after you condition, so it's definetly a good product.

I ordered this dryer on September 29, 2011 and it worked great until November 10,2011. Now it will only blow cold air. I stepped through their tips of cleaning the filter which did not contain lint, and did a reset on the plug, it still does not work except for a minimal amount of cold air. It is no longer eligible for return, return period expired as of November 1st 2011. So essentially the the return period is only for 30 days. Expensive tool for 40 days of use.

Okay...I decided to get a new blowdryer. Didn't need one mine was still working, after all. But there was all the hype about ionic, ceramic, tourmaline blah, blah, blah. But I was unhappy with my hair. It just didn't look good and hadn't for years. Didn't know why so kept shopping for the miracle product, the better stylist, a different cut. (BTW, I'm 55 and have curly, fine blonde hair but lots of it.) Finally had a eureka moment when I found a site that said dryers, even if they work, lose their effectiveness with age. Ummmm. My blowdryer is 19 years old.

So went on a search for a new dryer. Finally decided on the BaByliss Pro 2000 watt dryer due to the reviews on several sites. Not cheap but not outrageous. Bought the diffuser as well.

Used it for the first time today.

I used all the same products and care on my hair this morning. Normally, drying with the diffuser for 15 minutes removes excess water but I still left the house with damp hair, even on an Indiana January morning. Hair would be dry by about 10:00 am and then start to frizz by 2:00 pm, with no volume. TODAY walked out of the house with almost dry hair (after drying for 10 minutes) with volume (where I wanted it) and ended the day with frizz-free hair that is soft.

THE NEW DRYER.....Love the controls and the fit in my hand. It is heavier than my previous dryer but the shorter drying time makes this not a problem. Was louder than my previous dryer; however, if you are a 150 year old woman trying to yell as loud as a 3 year old, you're probably going to lose. I switched from hot to warm settings and the volume diminished. If you have curly hair and want to use a diffuser, I recommend ordering the diffuser designed for the dryer. I tried to use my old diffuser and it kept falling off. Irritating.

So far am very happy with this dryer and the results on my hair. Soft, frizz-free, dries quickly. And much better styling. My lesson learned replace that old dryer. I'm happy with my choice of replacement.

This hair dryer dried my hair much faster than my old one, and also gave it A LOT more volume. I think it was a really good value. It is a little heavy, but that doesn't bother me.

You know that feeling when you meet that special guy/gal and you know as soon as the first date is over...your life will never be the same...well, here he/she is.

When I'm talking life changing, I don't mean just mean--Wow my hair is so shiny!or --Gee, that didn't take very long to dry-NO! I'm talkingI may be able to grow my hair out past my collarbone without dreading every lackluster, 1.5hr, sweaty, drying session. Followed by another sweltering pattern of Section. Brush. Straighten. Repeat. (flat ironing)

I'm talking---Wait for it...BANGS. I am actually contemplating it.

I will actually go as so far to say I will be showering in the morning and I won't just let it curl on it's on or walk around with a curl turban while I get the kids ready for school.

I WILL BE A NORMAL PERSON!!! You know, the ones that wake up, shower, dry AND style their hair, put on makeup, and have coffee with there sit-down breakfast completed with a gerber daisy in a bud vase...well, you get my point.

FACTS:

Hair typesuper thick (has to be ponytailed with 2 of the thick hair ties) and ringlet curly, medium length. Ropes for pigtails.

Answers to some of the previously discussed "Cons"-

**Heavy-Well, yeah, it's made well and it sounds and performs like a jet engine. But if you are 85 years old I wouldn't suggest it.

**Concentrator Attachment-Mine never popped off and I used it for 30min on High. Also, thanks to my intense research on this product and my run in with a pot handle when I was 8 years old I learned that equipment that can evaporate water are generally not a great idea to touch when being used. If you would so wish to adjust your attachment angle at anytime turn it on the cold shot for about 30 seconds or so and, like magic, it is able to be handled. If you think that waiting for that long for it cool will hinder your hairs awesome sleekness, a few runs on the hot setting will put your hair right back in place.

**Volume Sucker-I would not suggest this dryer for anyone with fine hair. It's will cut your volume in half, that's why us "top-heavy" ladies like it so much. We can go from light socket to Cher straight in half the time. If you are grasping for every ounce of volume you can get I would say pass on this. But I bet you could use an old 80s trick and use this baby to blow dry upside down..that would be interesting..or just tease it like a us good-ole Southerners :) Guilty as charged! :)

**Suggestions-buy heat protector spray, a round brush, and dim the lights

My problem is not with BaByliss, I think they are great irons. My problem is with whoever takes responsibility of selling this item here. Background on this is I am a Hair salon owner for over 35 years. I want my clients to use good tools so they don't fry their hair. As I have said I have been happy with BaByliss for years. My distributor charges me a fortune for their irons. So for last few years I have been sending my clients to eBay to get it at a fair price I thought. Only to find that most are knock offs or copies. My problem with copies are they might look the exactly like the real thing but are not the same inside heating element and other important parts. Even more disheartening is that we think we are buying the real deal because the box even says the item is warranty for (4) yes 4 years. I have work with Conair over the last year that distributes BaByliss and have even have send some of the irons to them to see if it's the real deal. Sorry to say high percentage were fakes. So recently I decided to buy them myself to retail of Amazon after all its Amazon right. Out of 12 irons I received within 2 weeks some of them just did not seem right. Remember I am looking for fakes. The straw that broke the camel's back for me was one iron still sealed unopened had a large chipped on the handle and was repainted with touch-up paint which I know BaByliss would never do. It's called quality control. What does one do when some things go wrong and you send it back to CONAIR/BABYLISS for warranty for repair or replacement? Who do you go to then when they tell you they are not real? Amazon or the seller will you know what to do? I am not saying every single one is copy, what does one do when a seller sells? % real and the other fakes / copies. Do you know that one can buy 50 knock off/copy/fake irons from China for less than $23 each? That is hell of a mark up. If you were a seller which one would you sell? The one that cost less to buy so that there is a bigger return I think. One can only hope at that point they get the good/real one. Unless one contact the seller to ask who will back up the product when it goes south? What other iron do you know are warranty for (4) years. That is just my input some might not even care. But for me I had to send it back to Amazon which they refunded me, I cannot take the chance to retail them to my clients. My advice is that you keep your invoice and write down the name of the seller not just Amazon so you have some type of record when needed. 4 year is a long time will you still have your paper work after all that time? Please take the time to read the bad reviews first! You will notice they are all the same problems. Heating plates that do not close on one side. Hair that slides out, hairs being pull out as you use the iron. Hair being burnt with hooked burnt ends. Don't even think about using the fakes if you have fine hair. It will fry you hair with just a few use. The reason is the fake ones do not control the heat as the real ones. For people that has the real deal with fine hair. Do not set the heat setting more than 35. Bottom line here is it only takes only a few clicks to buy the iron. But it will take months if not years to get your hair back to where it was before using a fake. This is the best flat iron I've ever bought. As an African American female who has gone almost two years without "hair crack" aka hair relaxer I needed something that was going to provide shine and keep my wavy hair in order. This flat iron has provided me with the best hair job ever and the best part is that I don't need to ever get a perm again as long as I have this iron. Other flat irons would leave my hair extra looking extra dull and this flat iron made my hair shiny and soft at the same time. I have very thick hair and a lot of it a double whammy! I'm also growing it out and am a couple inches past my shoulders. I have been using a Cricket flat iron for about 4 years and I think from wear and tear plus my longer hair, it just fizzled out, although to be fair, it never got quite as hot as the BaByliss.

I've used it twice thus far, setting the heat at 410 (this iron goes up to 450). A couple swipes on each section of hair and it's done. It glides along nicely. I've only gotten a few minor snags (a lot less than I used to get my with my Cricket). Even slept on, my hair is still smooth and straight as a pin when I wake up the next day (I have a natural wave). If you have long/thick hair, I would suggest getting an iron with the wider dimension BaByliss offers various sizes. In 10 minutes, I'm done. It does also heat up very quickly. Like the instructions say, don't test the heat with your hand you will get burned!

I am giving this a 5 star rating because of how well it works, but there are a couple of things to beware of:

The handle does get pretty warm. It's tolerable, but don't expect to feel no heat on the handle. I would also start with a lower heat setting and see how it does. I'm actually thinking of going to the next lowest heat to see how well it works so I don't unintentionally burn my hair.

My last tip is about the price: I shopped locally for a good flat iron and called a local salon who recommended BaByliss, being that's what they primarily sold. Their price was around $140, compared to the $87.90 price tag here on Amazon. For what you're getting in this flat iron, it is an excellent deal!

This Product is amazing. I have very thick, curly,unruly, coarse hair. I have been through a lot of different flat irons including the (InStyler Rotating Iron)and all of them have just crushed my hair and made it looked really dry and un healthy with breaks at the ends, or the've made it poofy and not all that straight. This iron just glides through my hair and straightens it to perfection in only 1 glide so it does cut my styling time in half. It also curls very well and they do hold. Only caution is that it does get EXTEREMLY hot so be careful and I would make sure to have an anti burn mat on your counter. Its an amazing product so far and it works with any type of hair, the heat setting is ajustable and each temp is for a certain hair type (the manual has a guide for the different temps and hair types). Plus this price is a steal! I would recommend it to anyone (especially girls with really thick unmanagble hair.) :D

I have coarse, frizzy, curly/wavy, and EXTREMELY thick hair. This is the best flat iron I've ever tried; it's wwaaayyyyy better than CHI. (Think about it, CHI heats up to only 395 while this puppy is adjustable up to 450). The adjustable temp is great, the plates heat up very quickly, and having the large surface area is great when trying to straighten. I finish my hair in half the time as I would with other straighteners. And unlike with the other straightners, the results last until my next wash (I'll typically go for three days just using dry shampoo). Additionally, this product is so durable! I have had it for years, traveled with it, dropped it countless times, and it still works as well as it did on day one. It has been worth every penny.

Some tricks/additional recommendations:

-I'm right-handed, so when I straighten my hair I like to wear a glove on my left hand (just a cheap plain one from a $2 set). It prevents me burning my hands on the outsides of the plates or on the hair that's made recent contact with the plates.

-Aveda's smooth infusions line is the best straightening products I've found. I use both the style prep smoother and glossing straightener, putting both products on my damp hair before blow drying. Both of these act as heat protectants so no additional products need to be used after blow drying/before straightening. The glossing straightener, while weightless, provides plenty of hold and with this iron I can get my hair stick-straight, no gel or hairspray needed.

I took a chance on this one, and I am pleasantly surprised at how light it is and how quickly it dries my hair! I have fairly thick,frizzy/curly hair which usually takes me 20 minutes to dry, but with the FHI Nano it took about 10-12 minutes. Really pleased with it!

Some people mention tennis balls as an alternative. While tennis balls would probably give you the same fluffing effect as this product, lifting the clothes to allow the dryer's heat to do its work more quickly, the nubby surface of the dryer balls gives the added benefit of lightly abrading the surface of the clothing as they bounce around. This does indeed make the clothes softer. It's the same principle as stone-washing, which of course gives a softer hand to any fabric. While the first two dryer balls I bought didn't seem to do much, I noticed a difference in the softness of my laundry the first time I dried a load with six of them. I'd been wondering why, after just their first washing, my expensive designer clothes never felt quite the same as the day I bought them. These dryer balls provided me with a big part of my answer.

If the manufacturer had packed them in sets of six instead of two, I think the overall rating here would have been a bit higher.

Those who say that the balls are noisy most likely have an extremely small load. This allows the balls to constantly hit the dryer's metal drum or glass window. For most people, this would not be a problem since the balls would weave in and out of your clothes, cushioning it from the metal. I currently use 6-8 balls and they rarely hit the metal, perhaps once every 10 minutes or less. Putting the balls in with only two shirts, for example, would of course result in noise. But a normal load should prevent this.

Too small or too large a load would also explain why some see no advantages with these balls. With a large enough load, they should indeed hasten drying for two reasons: 1) They separate the clothes from each other, increasing airflow in between each item. 2) They lessen the likelihood knotting or bunching. This is an annoying problem if you dry sheets, blankets or large towels. These items roll into knots and bunches, taking other items in, preventing airflow. The balls intrude upon the knotting process; the more balls the better. You can prove this to yourself by watching the dryer with and without the balls. Make sure you have some sheets or large towels inside for the demo. And to be fair, use the same items both times.

It's all about airflow. If you have a very small load, there is already airflow so these won't help. If your load is too large, no amount of balls will be enough to separate the packed dryer. So don't overload!

The combing effect from the spikes may also speed up drying a bit by lifting the fabric's fibers, but I can't observe this directly. I have consistently seen effects #1 and #2, however. The combing also causes the softening effect because it makes the fabric fuzzy. As an aside, I worry that this combing may damage the fabric although I personally have not experienced any softening or damage.

Static has never been a problem for me so I can't comment on it. The likely principle behind static reduction is the prevention of fabrics from rubbing against each other. Remember the old grade school experiment of rubbing a balloon on hair to create static cling? Or rubbing your feet on the carpet to make static electricity and shock? Its the same with clothes; rubbing creates free electrons, which causes static electricity and cling. The balls separate the clothes to reduce rubbing.

Finally, I echo the writer who recommends at least 6 balls. I routinely use 6-8 with each load. And don't expect miracles.

In short, the science behind the balls makes sense. But they're useful only if you have a large enough load (but not too large). If you're only drying 2 shirts, there really isn't much to separate so there's no advantage. Instead, there will be a lot of noise.

I've done several loads of laundry with these balls and am neither really impressed nor entirely disappointed. I've found that they do seem to cut my dryer time from around 45 minutes to around 30 for an average load, which is nice. I still have to use a softener sheet to help with the static since the balls did absolutely nothing to help with it when used alone. However, the fabrics feel even softer than they did when I was using the softener sheets alone, which is great! They seem to be a worthwhile purchase, even though they don't do all the manufacturer says they will. The savings in electricity easily justifies the expense of the dryer balls for me.

Pros: These work pretty well. They are free of extra chemicals (hooray for the environment), and they'll pay for themselves after many uses.

Cons: After a year's use in a 3-person family, some of my clothes are starting to retain static, but it has only happened occasionally. They also tend to be a bit noisy, as to be expected. Might discolor slightly after awhile, but doesn't affect functionality.

Final thought: Decent product, decent price, would buy again.

I actually bought two of these for X-mas presents; one for myself and one for my daughter-in-law who has extremely thick and curly hair. After the first time using it, we were both amazed at how quickly it absorbs the excess water from our hair. By the time we had our make-up on, it was just a matter of a minute or so to completely style our hair. The button stayed securely fastened; however, after a few uses, the cord does tend to stretch a bit, but was not a problem. I would definitely buy another and would recommend it to others as well.

It's not as advertised. There is no elastic, it is quite small. Button fell off on first use. I've had others, so I know there are better out there.

I really like the concept around this product. The microfiber cloth is absorbent *enough* and it does the job very well. I have extremely thick hair and it's very nice to be able to wrap it up and out of the way as it dries, leaving me free to brush my teeth and apply makeup without my wet hair getting in the way.

However, the construction of the head wrap, even as simple as it is, is of poor quality. The wrap is fastened at the nape of the neck by a large button that snapped off with first wear.

I would not buy this product again. Rather, I'll buy the material and make one myself.

Review of Andis 30975/HD-10L 1600W Quiet Hangup Hair Dryer with Night Light

We have used several Andis hair dryers in motels and decided to get one. There are two short comings for this model:

1. The LED night light is too bright. I covered it with an opaque (I thought) white tape. The LED light still penetrates through around the edges. The light is toned down now but it is too bad there isn't an adjustment on the light. This is not enough negative factor not to buy one.

2. The unit is quiet but not as powerful as I would like it to be. We used a different Andis model in a hotel that had plenty of power. I believe the model number ended in "92".

I like the concept an will probably buy another Andis with more power and move this one to a guest bathroom.

For $30 it is close to being a great dryer . . . but not quite.

Traveling on business often allowed me to try quite a few hotel hair dryers over the years. The features I like about the Andis hair dryers I've used were that they were not too large or heavy, they had medium heat to medium-high heat, they didn't blow too hard, and they were relatively quite. I've used some hair dryers that almost gave me wrist strain trying to hold them, and some that caused your ears to ring once your hair was dry. The Andis' hangup models seem to find a good compromise between function and low noise levels. I've put these in all our bathrooms at home, since they can be used without disturbing others in the house even if they are sleeping. Some different models of Andis dryers I've owned before would stop working after about a year due to a diode on the on/off switch overheating and failing, but this model doesn't seem to have that issue. Other nice features that this 30975/HD-10L has are that there is no GFI transformer plug at the end of the cord...It's built into the base housing of the dryer. Also, this unit comes with a cord hang-up bracket which can be placed on either side of the base. Like other hair dryers the on/off switch will reset to the off position when it's placed back into the base wall holder. Taking the dryer out of the base again will resume the flow of warm air. Some reviewers have complained of the brightness of the built-in nightlight. It's not annoying to me and it can be use it as the only nightlight in the bathroom. If I could ask for only one additional feature, it would be a way to change the color of the LED light. There are many LED nightlights on the market that let you select what color you'd like the light to have, and lock it to that color. This would be a nice feature to have on this unit, and might please those that think the light is too bright. Last, this unit has a metal wall bracket and paper template, so it's actually very easy to install. The plastic base then screws to the metal plate, once mounted, with two small screws hidden by the hair dryer when it's in the base. Any excess cord can be hidden inside the base, so between not having an unsightly GFI box on the plug end and the fact that you can shorten the cord to just a few inches, if needed, makes for a very clean installation. No cords unsightly tangled cords hanging around your bath to get caught on other stuff. And not having the GFI plug allows other appliances like cordless tooth brushes, shavers, or rollers to be used on the same wall outlet without the adjacent plug(s) being blocked.

This is a nice hairdryer that works very well and is quiet. The hook attachment to keep the cord off the counter is very handy. The only thing that is negative is the nightlight is very bright and Aqua colored so it really lights up the room. It would be nice if it had a light sensitve switch to turn it off during the day or when the room lights are on, but for the price that might be asking too much.

This is the second Andis Hangup Hair Dryer we've had.....The first one was more than 10 yrs. old and ran great....We left it on the wall when we sold the house and moved....Got a new one for the new house...Couldn't be happier and love the night light feature...

I looked at local retail stores and couldn't find wall mount units. Don't know why anyone would want one just lying on the counter. I was skeptical of the Ionic feature, but I believe my hair feels softer and less straw-like after using this dryer. Feels well made and should last. At first I thought the high speed wasn't powerful enough, but I think the quietness of this unit is deceptive. It's really blowing as much air as my old dryer, which was good, but it's so much quieter that you think it's not as powerful. The night light is quite bright and is a pleasing green, but I wish I could turn it off during the daytime.
