The good news is my somewhat thin, cotton-candy, wavy, frizzy hair is shiny and STRAIGHT (with body.) It has been very hot, and quite humid lately, but my hair stays straight and shiny all day. That's a first.

The bad news is the dryer is heavier than I had hoped. It is awkward to use, although I hope to become more proficient at it. For now I keep resorting back to using a brush. And, Conair, if you're listening, a locking cool-shot button would be a big plus for those of us with work weary hands.

If you're like me and you have to spend time drying your hair with a blowdryer then flat-ironing it to get it straight, then I would definitely recommend this dryer. If you are good with a blowdryer and a round brush, it's not really necessary for you to buy this. It pretty much does the same job, so why waste $60?

I like it because it does make your hair soft and does add a lot of volume, and I'm absolutely hopeless with a regular blowdryer. I gave it 4 stars because no matter what they tell you, it doesn't make your hair as straight and sleek as a good flat iron. Still, like I said before it does work. The only complaint I have is that doing the back of your head is a little awkward. I haven't really gotten the hang of that.

I have long, thick, curly (frizzy, mediterranean) hair which I straighten, but which nonetheless frizzes if not properly dried. I've just tried this dryer -I have several dryers, including the $235.00 tourmaline/ceramic/ionic -and it works. The ends are not a problem (see previous review). You do have to get your fingers out of the way -i.e., let go -but you can curl your hand around the brush-end of the dryer to hold the ends flat as they dry. My hair looked as well or better as when I dry it in sections with the $235.00 hairdryer and a large brush. While the Conair blow dry was not quite as smooth as those that I've had at a high-end NYC salon, it definitely was as smooth as a "no appointment, FIFO" moderately priced salon blow dry. I would recommend it to anyone who has difficult hair and can't afford weekly blow-drys.

I'm so glad I ordered this product. I'm an African-American with natural hair (no perm or texturizer). I was looking for an easy way to dry my hair without it getting really tight. This dryer provided just what I needed.

I de-tangle my hair first with a wide tooth comb and section it (this is important!). Then I use this dryer to blow dry my hair straight so I can get long two-strand twists. It's much better than holding a dryer in one hand and a brush in the other. If you're African-American with natural hair, this dryer will work IF you de-tangle your hair first. Hold the section of hair you want to dry, and slowly comb through the section with the dryer.

My daughter gave this dryer to me for Christmas. We both had fun trying it and we both love it. She has thick, thick, auburn hair that has a lot of natural curl and body. After using the Infiniti Tourmaline Hair Designer, her long layered hair was straight, but with body and movement. It also had a beautiful, healthy shine.

My hair is thick, but very fine. I have some natural wave that turns to frizz. Big frizz. Ugh! I've used many dryers, curling irons, and flat irons, and was doubtful that this dryer would be any better. I was wrong. It takes a little practice to learn how to hold and maneuver it, but the results on my hair is fantastic! I can go from soaking wet hair, to straight and shiny in about 15 minutes. Sometimes I use an anti-frizz or extra body product, and sometimes I don't. I get nice results either way. Recently I got soaked in a snowstorm. I let my hair dry without brushing or fussing with it, and I was surprised to see it dry straight, shiny, and frizz-free. Oh, by the way, my hair is past shoulder length, and layered.

I recommend taking the time to watch the DVD and read the little manual before you start. There are a few important steps, such as figuring out where to set the tension control. (The dial is for this purpose, and has nothing to do with heat control, as one reviewer seemed to think.) It's also important to draw the appliance slowly through your hair. The slower, the better.

I'm really very happy with this dryer. I don't know if I'll ever use my flat iron or other hair dryers again! It's just too lovely to be able to do it all in one step, with one tool. There is a diffuser available for the Infiniti, too. I'm considering ordering it. Maybe it would actually dry my hair in waves rather than frizz.

Best Conair Instant Heat Curling Iron Deals

I am the kind of person who will splurge on cosmetics and beauty products and feel it's worth it so I don't necessarily look for the bargain buy in this area but the best working product.

Fortunately, this curling iron is not only priced well for the value, it beats out the "old school" curling irons I've used for the last 30 years.

I actually bought mine at Walgreens for a higher price after reading about it in a magazine.

Unlike any other iron I've used this one actually heats up in...wait for it....wait for it....30 SECONDS!!!

You can also choose your heat level from 1-15 but be leary of that 15---that is a scorcher.

However, some may be looking for that high of a heat. I keep it around the medium to medium high numbers and it curls in an instant. And I have uber thick hair.

Touch ups are instant rather than waiting for the iron to heat up. If I am going out and find I've missed a spot I can basically now instantly reheat the iron and have it hot 30 seconds after I turn it on.

Negative: I'm probaby odd in that I always hold my curling iron real close to the barrel. Because of this a few times I've accidentally turned the heat level without trying. Not a big deal, but something I'd change if I could to make the wheel maybe a little harder to turn.

Conclusion: tops in my book. I won't go back to the curling irons of the past where I have to wait for them to heat. Instant gratification, baby! :-)

OK, so after reading all of the reviews on this product my wife buys one. Well, in about 6 weeks the iron won't heat anymore. Sent it in got a new one because of the 2 year warranty (cost $10.00 for shipping & handling plus they wanted $3.00 for themselves). She used it about 4 months and then the little spring breaks. Having used other curling irons over the years and having had to replace the springs, we thought to call Conair and have them send us a replacement spring, about a $.10 item which takes about 60 seconds to replace. Well, they no longer sell the springs. The wanted to have us pack it up again and spend another $10.00 for shipping AND send them $3.00 to boot. Who are they kidding? What kind of service are they giving their customers. I will never buy another Conair product. I gave this product only one star because I couldn't go any lower.

I picked up this curler in Wal Mart 10 years ago for about $12. It works wonderfully, heats fast, makes beautiful curls and doesn't snatch my hair out. I am a black woman with shoulder length hair and this curler straightens the hair from the root to the tip when I pull it through in small sections. I am then able to go back and curl it up for body and bounce. It gets hot!! When my first one broke after 3 years of use, I went out and spent $$$ on ceramic, gold n hot, and all types of overpriced styling tools. A few weeks and fuzzy hairstyles later I went back and copped my Conair Instant heat, and I was back in business. When I travel, I take these curlers, a silk scarf, satin rollers and my favorite moisturizer. That's all I need because I can straighten and curl with this. One last thing to add, ladies get some of the satin sponge rollers. After you make your body curls, keep them fresh with the satin sponge rollers, just wrap your curls around them and cover up. In the morning there is no need to curl again, you'll be good to go.

I was unsure whether or not to try this product and had doubts about it when I bought it. It claims to be a heat protector, a polisher and a straightening spray. It totally works!

My hair is more shiny and it definitely improves the straightening process. Although I can't tell if it actually "protects" my hair from the heat, it certainly doesn't seem to be damaged after the straightening process. I use small amounts because it does stay in the hair. It seems to also improve fly aways and keep everything where its supposed to be. And it has a mild fruity, fresh smell.

I have natural hair (3B/3C), and I blow dry/flat iron it straight sometimes. While straight it's a little past my bra strap and pretty thick. This spray makes straightening much easier, protects my hair from heat damage, gives it a gorgeous shine, and even prevents it from getting puffy when it's exposed to humidity! I did a lot of research on rolling hairdryers before buying this, including reading reviews of products on Amazon. The model I have is BABHHDRIW. My hair is fine, normal porosity, normal elasticity, and I have a lot of it. In summer, I let it dry on its own, but in winter it takes hours and it's too cold to run around with wet hair. I'm newish at curly hair, having always used round brushes and hand drying sections at a time to style. In Southern California heat, it is too curly to maintain a smooth style, so I've been experimenting with products, sites, and equipment.

This Babyliss ProThermal roll-about drier is perfect. It is quiet more a hum but you may not want to have a conversation while it's on high and someone is speaking from the other room. I roll it out and sit under it while doing my makeup, leaving the clips in at the roots while it dries. Within 10-12 minutes, my scalp and whole head are dry enough to remove the clips. If you have longer hair mine is just past my shoulders when dry the ends may be set but still feel a bit damp.

The dryer was easy to put together; no need to be mechanical. A couple of rods that go together and the base screws on (you might want a wrench to tighten) and the bonnet slips on at the top. Very stable, not tippy, weighs maybe 15 pounds altogether. No frizz, doesn't blow your hair like a wind tunnel there are three settings, including a no-heat one with just light air. I love it.

This hooded dryer is perfect for drying my natural hair and I don't have to worry about going outside with wet hair. My husband also uses it to dry his hair, this way he doesn't have to worry about drying all of his hair at the same time. Blow dryers don't always get all of the hair dry. Just a few minutes my husband is out from under the dryer. I only stay under the dryer for 30 minutes or so. I use the medium heat, not the hot. You can always turn it to cool. I would recommend this product because it's so easy to put together and your hair gets an even distribution of heat.

The only reason I didn't give it five stars is the tip where you put your finger when you are curling is so short I kept burning my fingers! First off I'm a sucker for anything "mini." The pros are that it is very basic, heats up quickly, is a great travel size, the price is great, and I liked the length of the cord considering it's a mini product. I do agree with some other reviews about how it would be nice to have an extra inch on the barrel. You also have to be a little careful because the safety tip above the barrel is a little bit small. I have fine hair that is below my shoulder blades and had no problems creating nice beachy waves. Be warned that if you have long hair like mine you'll need to curl half the length of a strand first and then the other half. If you're planning on everyday use, I would suggest going with a full sized curling iron. Personally, I found this product perfect for my needs of occasional use. The pouch that came with my iron doesn't look like the one pictured. The case was a black and white zebra print. You slip the iron in and there is an elastic strap on the outside to hold the cord. In my opinion, it's probably better than the zippered one pictured. Overall, I'm happy with the product.

I wanted a small curling iron for travel, and this looked like just the thing. It works so well that I use it for my daily at-home hair styling. 1. VERY SMALL, GREAT FOR TRAVELING! It left a lot more room in my suitcase to bring back presents for ME.

2. loved the case. keeps the hot part of the iron inside, while the cord is neatly contained outside with an elastic band and not exposed to the hot barrel if you have to pack it right away!!

3. heats up fast!

4. inexpensive, (well i have enough home hair appliances already I DIDN'T WANT TO SPEND A FORTUNE ON A TRAVEL ONE.

5. dual voltage only needs an adaptor for Europe. I was able to buy this iron very cheaply and use with an adaptor that i also bought on Amazon cheaply that could be used for all of my electronics as well.

6. liked that it has no voltage switch...who wants to think that hard about which voltage setting to use a on vacation or for a business trip for that matter? I mean, I don't really care what the stupid voltage is. I just wanna look Good!!

Cons

1. small OK for me because I expected and wanted it small but that is a decision for you and your hair!!

2. safety tip a bit small and you have to be careful not to get burned!

3. I have to admit it does roll and is very close to the surface when you lay it down. You just have to be careful, but as it heats up so fast, just plug it in, use it and unplug it right away and you should be fine!

Recommend for: Anyone who is looking for a travel curling iron that travels overseas or who might travel overseas in the future. I think that most people will only use this on vacation/travel so it should last awhile.

If I wanted to use my own curling irons, irons, blow dryers and other heat appliance in Europe, I would have needed a current converter (sp?). Our Hotel rented them but said that they were always out and recommended I bring my own converter (expensive and large and heavy) After researching many blogs and Amazon reviews, I decided that this would be cheaper and more convenient. I was right!!

So I recommend buying a this small dual voltage curling iron and a travel adaptor.

Most of your electronics like ipods/cell phones/lap tops are probably already dual voltage and you will only need an adaptor (check first though I burned out my camera battery charger in Greece!!but luckily the greeks were very very happy to sell me a new one!) (FYI: used on Cruise ship, Greek and Italian Hotels)

February 2012: Still using this product. just returned from Germany and Africa and I still love it!! I just leave it right in my suitcase with my travel adaptors so its always ready to go!!

I wanted a small curling iron for my trip to Europe. I have shoulder length hair, but I really only needed something to curl my bangs a bit, so this works great. I would not recommend it for longer hair, unless you just want to curl the ends.

Since the barrel is so small, you have to divide your hair into 1 inch sections to curl, and the clamp does not open as far as a larger iron, so it is harder to slide your hair into it. With care, it can be done, and the tip on the end is adequate to hold and not burn your fingers as you curl.

The iron's built in stand will not keep it sitting in place on your counter, but it will roll to the side, so be carefull where you place it when curling, as the iron gets pretty hot.

The bag that it comes in is not the same zippered bag shown in the picture. It is not zippered, just a sleeve to slide the iron in, and you have to leave the cord on the outside.

The iron is as I expected, and I curled not only my bangs, but the rest of my hair, just to test it, and the curls were the same as if I used a bigger iron, only I had to divide it into smaller sections. It is important to take extra care when using because the size and small opening clamp can make it akward and therefore easier to burn yourself.

I normally love Davines products. I ordered the Melu travel set here to try from 8000 beauty/Amazon. I have long, damaged hair. Which is the type of hair this is recommended for. I followed the directions, but when I dried my hair, it looked terrible! It was like I had not used conditioner at all and I had to use lots of leave in conditioner to smooth it out again. Not what I expected from Davines products. UPDATE: This was used on me in a salon recently, very different results. I will be more careful about where I purchase from in future.

I use and LOVE the Fantasia Liquid Mousse Provitamin Wrapping Lotion to blow dry and set my hair. It is the best product I've found for this and I have tried a lot. What I like most is that it leaves your hair extremely silky more than anything else I have found on the market. It provides a nice, soft, but lasting curl and leaves your ends smooth. It has no alcohol so it isn't drying. There's no buildup so you can use it to set your hair every single day and you get a fresh hairstyle just like the moment you stepped out of the salon. It feels smooth and silky to the touch and is very affordable. It is becoming harder to find which I am very sad about. Most Sally's stores used to carry it but the foaming products that seem to have replaced this product are very harsh and leave the hair feeling coarse and stiff. I read the reviews and I thought the reviews were slanted more towards the positive sprinkled with a few not so favorable reviews. But, believe me the favorable comments were on the money. This hair dryer is worth the money. It dries very well. I live overseas and although I have to use a transformer in order to convert from 110 to 220, it does not make any difference in the quality of drying. It takes about 40 minutes to dry my hair (I sit under the dryer in the hair salon for 1 hour). For those of you who have real thick hair, trust me, it will not take too much longer to dry your hair. Today I used the product and have to say I am satisfied with it. It gets very hot when you put it on high. Trust me I was very skeptical on whether how well it would work. I liked that the hesd was very wide compared to some selections that I had seen in the beauty supply stores. I did a deep conditioning for 20 minutes prior and then did a roller set and sat under it for about an 1hr and half. The only draw back is the heat distribution to the back of my hair. I shifted myself back and forth to make sure that the back of my hair was dried completely. Overall my hair felt nice and soft and full of body at the end. I am going to buy the heating cap from Laila Ali as well. In the end, the dryer does it's job.

I would recommend thes dryer to anyone who is tired of dryers that dry and burn the crown of your head, but There are several things I love about this dryer:

First I'll start with the fact that the holes are positioned so that the air is circulating around your ENTIRE head and not just the crown. It really does dry your hair evenly: no more turning from side to side and in various akward positions trying to get the entire head dry!

The setting are Low, Medium, and High. High is hot but no where near unbearable. I mostly use medium setting, but I dry on the High setting sometimes and my hair still comes out shiny and not dried out, and that brings me to my next point.

I am a believer of the Ion feature simply because i can tell that my hair is not as dried out as other dryers I've used in the past have made my hair. My hair has a shine to it even before adding my products to my hair.

The hood is large enough to accomodate rollers. When drying my hair, I had a HEAD FULL of jumbo flexi rods and had no problem fitting underneath.

The pluses are the adjustable hood which features about three or four different heights. The color (purple and black opposed to the usual white dryers). Worth every penny. I love this dryer.

Love that the top is wider than I thought it would be, gets really hot. I wish it had a timer but being that is portable I can understand. It's not too heavy to carry around, but sometimes i have to click back the handle since it's come out a lot [crazy glue shall do the trick..i hope]. I also wish it didn't take so much power, it's messed up 2 of my power surgers, so I suggest you plug it directly to the electric socket and NOT a power surge or extension cord.
