Cheap Black Pearl Ceramic & Tourmaline Dual Voltage 1" Flat Iron

I should have done my homework before buying this flat iron. I mainly picked it because it is dual voltage and I wanted a flat iron to take on international travel. Turns out I was able to buy a much better dual voltage flat iron at my local drugstore for about 1/3 the price.

The Black Pearl is heavy, which is not great for travel. The quality appears cheap and the plates don't meet all the way along, producing inconsistent results. It has an awkward on/off switch on the cord with indicator light, so it's difficult to tell if it's on or off -kind of important in an appliance that can burn you badly! It has NO HEAT CONTROL at all and my hair was literally SMOKING -obviously this iron gets super hot, but you can't turn it down at all.

The much cheaper Conair flat iron I bought at the drugstore is better on all of those points: it is lighter even though it has ceramic plates, it's better constructed, it has an on/off indicator light, and it has 25 heat settings.

Also, it turns out most major brands of flat irons are dual voltage, though you have to read the packaging carefully to figure that out.

About the only good thing I can say about this flat iron is that the swivel cord is kind of nice. The cheaper one I bought doesn't have the swivel -but I don't find it hard to use.

I own the original SuperStar Professional 1-inch Flat Iron Hair Straightener, which I just love! However, I live overseas and unfortunately had removed the voltage safety of the product so I didn't want to plug it in and have a melt down! I bought this Black Pearl because it specifically said 220 volt, well that's about the only thing it has going for it. It works marginally, it's build quality is low, made of cheap plastic with low quality plates that aren't set properly and there is no heat setting. Finally, it looks converted to 220 that's how cheap it looks. So you are still wondering, well how does it function? My hair has but a few loose curls, that end up looking like loose, long waves. Tsk, tsk, it did little to nothing for my hair, which needs only a little heat and effort to go straight or curl the ends. For the price you should expect a better quality item with at least a high/low heat setting that actually affects your hair.

There is no switch on the flat iron, but it definitely works in Europe. It was great! It comes with an adaptor and provided me with nice straight hair the entire trip!

After being swayed by the reveiws here and getting wise to the warranty situation, I made a point of purchasing this product in a nearby beauty supply store who is an authorized seller and thought I was getting a bargain at $125. I bought it in the hopes of taming the huge, round, coarse frizzball sitting on my head.

Let me note for the skeptical that the product was brand new, unopened in the box and in obvious mint condition. It is an authentic T3 hairdryer. Yes, it dried faster, but left a noticeably dull, dry finish and seemed to strip my hair of it lustre. Not only that but I couldn't get the ends of my hair to lie straight after they had already shriveled up in the fast drying process, and the more I struggled with the ends the more flyaway my hair became. And it appears to be MORE voluminous than ever bigger and puffier and with the same amount of frizz, only duller looking.

I immediately plugged it out and plugged in my old, falling apart Babyliss Carerra (non-ionic) dryer and afer a few minutes managed to get the ends straight and see some lustre return. I agree completely with the reviewer who made the comment about losing the healthy shine.

I only hope I can get my money back. I will certainly try.

UPDATE Comparison of T3 Tourmaline to less expensive Babyliss ProTT

though I couldn't get my money back, I exchanged the T3 for a Babyliss ProTT 3000 Tourmaline dryer (I'd have stayed away from Tourmaline ionic infrared labels but apparently it's all the rage and very difficult to find a nice lowtech one that doesn't incorporate this technology).

Like the T3, the Babyliss is also really lightweight, dries as fast or faster than the T3, and has the added benefit of more heat settings including medium, low, and high, as well as a cool shot, whereas the T3 only offers a high heat and low heat. The Babyliss has 1900 watts and the T3 has 1800. There are various models of the Bablyiss tourmaline, but this model was at the lower end of the price range at $89, and you can get it on Amazon for about $20 less.

It is for the above reasons and others I'm about to detail that it is a superior product to the T3. Not only does it cost much less but the Babyliss gave my hair a soft, lustrous, shiny smooth sheen and healthy texture, and did not leave it looking dried out and fried as the T3 did.

That said, I still experienced the same problem w/the Babyliss as with the T3 it gives too much volume to my short, thick choppy layered hair and doesn't allow me to straighten it at any heat setting. What I saved in drying time (easily fifteen minutes without sweating and straining my arm) I paid for dearly in styling time to try to get the full balloon-y volume to calm down and get the ends to lay flat.

In sum, I would strongly recommend saving your money on the T3 and buying the Babyliss if you want to see not merely identical but significantly improved functionality and performance over the more expensive T3 dryer. Yet I would still be less likely to recommend this or any other tourmaline-infused infrared dryer for people with very thick, voluminous hair that they want to take the poof out of and make straight, as that will likely not happen with this or similar units. As a final but very significant note on performance the Babyliss toned down my frizz (and it's a very rainy day today) by nearly 100 percent! Also I noticed very few dry flyaways as compared to the T3.

In sum, the Babyliss ProTT is an excellent product, a much better choice than the T3. It is more economical, offers greater functionality and superior performance.

I like the product. However, having purchased it from Amazon.com, T3 will not allow me to register my product for future warranty because they claim Amazon.com is not an authorized dealer. For such an expensive every day product, a warranty would be nice to have in case anything were to go wrong. I received an email from T3 and a call back both confirming that they do not consider Amazon.com an authorized dealer. When I called Amazon, they had never heard of such a thing. Amazon.com offered to exchange my featherweight tourmaline dryer with another but that did not resolve my issue. I cannot get my T3 Tourmaline Featherweight 83808 hair dryer covered by T3's warranty because it was purchased through Amazon.com.

If you take a lot of time drying hair and the weight of the dryer is an issue, this is a very good purchase. But your hair will be no shinier or softer than with other dryers.

I recently purchased this item with great hopes. It is a good hairdryer BUT...imagine my surprise when T3 Micro Inc. refused to honor the warranty because I purchased this item from amazon.com. I was a little dismayed by this brush. Call me sadist, but I LOVE to hear my children whine and scream every morning and night when it is time to comb their hair. It is so enjoyable to have them cry and claim abuse as I tenderly comb their hair. I have long hairits almost to my butt and straight. It tangles very easily and I have to brush my hair before I wash it otherwise I will not be able to get it untangled after I wash it. I used expensive thick conditioners just so that it makes it somewhat easier. but still it would take me at a very long and painful time to finally get my hair smooth.

I ordered this and I tried it immediately on my dry hair, that had been brushed earlier, and the brush went thru with ease and the bristles did not get caught and pull my hair hard at all.

I then tried it after I washed my hairwithout brushing it right before washing it like I normally wouldand I had no issues what so everit was the fastest and easiest time I have ever had brushing my wet hair, and there was no pain. I was afraid that maybe it wasnt getting everywhere because it just seemed to be working too good, so I took the brush I normally used and brushed it after and it was smooth.

Needless to say, I am extremely happy with this brush and I could not be happier.

Ohhh I also at the same time bought a detangling comb... and that didnt workit kept getting stuck in my hair.

Our whole family (four of us) use this style of brush, #847, the design of which has changed from the last time I ordered them. For the better, actually. The handle is more ergonomically appropriate and feels better in my hand, although I never noticed any discomfort with the prior handle, but the new handle design does feel more solid and natural. The bristles are spaced a little further apart from each other, which somehow makes it feel even nicer on my head and running through my hair. However, time will tell if the plastic bristles that surround the boar hair will keep their soft-tips intact, a problem we had when my five-year-old daughter got hold of one of the brushes one afternoon and pulled them all off, rendering the brush unusable due to the sharpness of the plastic bristles without the soft "cap." Overall, I love the new design and have ordered more.

I went to the LA County Fair where Corioliss has a large display stand and chairs to do hair curling/straightening demonstrations with their flat iron. She curled the ends of my hair with a straightener and I LOVED it, so I paid $80 and went on my way. I used it 3 times since then. On the 4th try, it wouldn't get hot. It would warm up, and then turn off. I was luckily able to go back to the Fair to exchange it, which they did with no problems. But the new one I received won't stay on now. I've tried it in different outlets, started with the heat down low, power on OFF, then turned ON, and it still won't get hot. The light goes out and that's it. They have a stand at the Ontario Mills Mall, so now I have to go there to exchange it AGAIN because they do not issue refunds. On one hand, when I was able to curl my hair, it came out great, just like they advertise. It was shiny, silky, beautiful full curls that lasted all day. And I have super straight asian hair and was totally impressed with the results. But what's the point in standing up for a product that cost $80 and doesn't work when I want it to?! Definitely not worth the money or the hassle to drive around town to have it exchanged. There's got to be a more reliable flat iron out there that does the same thing but doesn't short out. I wish I knew this before I lost money on it.

I too am African American with thick natural hair(not chemically treated). I have been using corioliss for about 3 months. I have recieved more comments on how healthy my hair looks since using corioliss. I previously used CHI which is also a great product but didn't seem to give my hair the sheen that this product gives. I don't use any oil, grease or anything. I often either blow dry my hair or let it dry naturally(combing it out and twisting) before I use the iron. My only complaint is that the edge next to the heat plates pulls my hair out, so I have to make sure that I get my hair in the middle of the iron. Also, I paid way too much for my iron. I paid $120 for one and $70 for another (in the same day). I purchased the product at THE GALLERIA in Birmingham, AL (don't ever buy from those people at those kiosks). I wish I had done my research!

Best hair iron that I have ever invested in. Ive had a chi, a titanium flat iron that I bought at sallys it burned my hair and was not ceramic and I payed more than 70 for it! I blow dry my hair first or let it dry naturaly, I then straighten it or make big curls or flip it out or in. I was introduced to this product at my salon. They perform a smoothing treatment by Brocato (which I had done) and recommended this product for the maintenance of the smoothing treatment. Since using this product in conjunction with the Brocato curl interrupted keratin spray, I haven't had a need for any additional smoothing treatments. Finally, I have silkly smooth hair and I don't have to spend an hour with a flat iron to get it straight and somewhat smooth.

This is a great hair towel. I sorely miss it when I'm away from home, and am considering buying an extra for the suitcase. I've had this particular towel, the waffle weave one, for 5 years now, and it's finally lost it's absorbency, so I'm purchasing another. I think it's a great value and am extremely satisfied.

I've also used the lisse one, which I think has a strange texture after a few washes--I would recommend this waffled one over that one.

I first purchased the Aquis lisse crepe hair towel and completely fell in love with it, so I got the waffle ones too. I am so happy with both of them!! As for drying hair, I think they both work equally well. There are some minor differences.

Pros for lisse crepe:

thinner than waffle, so when folded, it is more compact

the towel itself dries faster than waffle

Pros for waffle:

feels better on the skin (if I was to purchase a body towel, I would go for the waffle material)

looks nicer

I think you would be happy with either of them! I plan on using the waffle one at home and take crepe one to the gym/yoga studio/travel.

I live in a condo that has a very, very small washer and dryer, so I don't have the room or the time to do much laundry. With regular towels, I can only put three in the washer, and it ends up taking 2 hours to wash and dry them! These towels are perfect for apartment-style living! I can throw this towel in the washer and have a TON of room for all the other things I need washed, too! The absorbancy factor is great, my hair is not frizzy after keeping my hair wrapped in the towel, and it's pretty soft. My husband and I are very thin, so I thought this size towel would be great for drying off, but unfortunately, they barely wrap around our bodies enough to tie them on the side and wear them around the house. I have long hair and lots of it, and I used to hate the day that I had to wash it because I don't have time to blow dry it and so my hair would be wet the entire day,spongy, frizzy, basically what would constitute a REALLY bad hair day! Dispite all this, when my hair is dried I actually have beutiful hair, this towel has been great, I swear the best thing yet, after I use it, if I let my hair to air dry it'll dry in just a couple of hours and If I blow dry it it'll take half the time than before. Also when I air dri it, it dries out nice with no puffiness, frizziness or sponginess!!

The down side is that it's a bit small for my amount of hair and it's hard for me to wrap it around, so I have to use a hair clip to hold it up in a turban.

I bought a travel size of this hairspray at Ulta as I was waiting on line one day. Thought I would give it a try, but I had no idea I would love it this much. Ordered it through Amazon, it is a huge bottle and it is significantly less expensive than Ulta. Love Amazon...keep the great deals coming!

Not only is this bottle HUGE, but the product smells wonderful too. I only use it to tame the fly-aways when I have my hair in a pony tail, and it has worked perfectly for that. The strength of the hold is just enough to make the pony tail look sleek, but not so strong that my hair looks wet or greasy. It also feels soft to the touch #lovethisproduct

I will never be without this hairspray. It adds texture and you can brush through it the next day and restyle without any build up or problems. Hair is touchable and the style lasts for a couple of days with minimal touch up. Love this! Be sure you purchase the "natural hold". I have tried dozens of sprays and this one is the bomb!
