I bought this curling iron in the summer for a trip to Europe. It heats up instantly and does a fantastic job. Better than the one I've been using at home. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is the tip where you put your finger when you are curling is so short I kept burning my fingers! If you concentrate on what you are doing you won't have a problem! The heatproof case was also very handy as you didn't have to wait for the iron to cool before packing it away. Also there were no switches to turn for the dual voltage....all you had to do was plug it in with a tip for the country you were in.

First off I'm a sucker for anything "mini." The pros are that it is very basic, heats up quickly, is a great travel size, the price is great, and I liked the length of the cord considering it's a mini product. I do agree with some other reviews about how it would be nice to have an extra inch on the barrel. You also have to be a little careful because the safety tip above the barrel is a little bit small. I have fine hair that is below my shoulder blades and had no problems creating nice beachy waves. Be warned that if you have long hair like mine you'll need to curl half the length of a strand first and then the other half. If you're planning on everyday use, I would suggest going with a full sized curling iron. Personally, I found this product perfect for my needs of occasional use. The pouch that came with my iron doesn't look like the one pictured. The case was a black and white zebra print. You slip the iron in and there is an elastic strap on the outside to hold the cord. I wanted a small curling iron for travel, and this looked like just the thing. It works so well that I use it for my daily at-home hair styling. It heats up quickly and doesn't take up a lot of counter space. My hair looks good after I use it. Also, I have seen it in local stores since my Amazon purchaseand Amazon was cheaper!I should point out that I only use the curling iron for getting my bangs to hang right. If my hairstyle involved using the curling iron all over, this might be too small and take too long.

PROS:1. VERY SMALL, GREAT FOR TRAVELING! It left a lot more room in my suitcase to bring back presents for ME.
2. loved the case. keeps the hot part of the iron inside, while the cord is neatly contained outside with an elastic band and not exposed to the hot barrel if you have to pack it right away!!
3. heats up fast!
4. inexpensive, (well i have enough home hair appliances already I DIDN'T WANT TO SPEND A FORTUNE ON A TRAVEL ONE.
5. dual voltage only needs an adaptor for Europe. I was able to buy this iron very cheaply and use with an adaptor that i also bought on Amazon cheaply that could be used for all of my electronics as well.
6. liked that it has no voltage switch...who wants to think that hard about which voltage setting to use a on vacation or for a business trip for that matter? I mean, I don't really care what the stupid voltage is. I just wanna look Good!!
Cons
1. small OK for me because I expected and wanted it small but that is a decision for you and your hair!!
2. safety tip a bit small and you have to be careful not to get burned!
3. I have to admit it does roll and is very close to the surface when you lay it down. You just have to be careful, but as it heats up so fast, just plug it in, use it and unplug it right away and you should be fine!
Recommend for: Anyone who is looking for a travel curling iron that travels overseas or who might travel overseas in the future. I think that most people will only use this on vacation/travel so it should last awhile.
If I wanted to use my own curling irons, irons, blow dryers and other heat appliance in Europe, I would have needed a current converter (sp?). Our Hotel rented them but said that they were always out and recommended I bring my own converter (expensive and large and heavy) After researching many blogs and Amazon reviews, I decided that this would be cheaper and more convenient. I was right!!
So I recommend buying a this small dual voltage curling iron and a travel adaptor.
Most of your electronics like ipods/cell phones/lap tops are probably already dual voltage and you will only need an adaptor (check first though I burned out my camera battery charger in Greece!!but luckily the greeks were very very happy to sell me a new one!) (FYI: used on Cruise ship, Greek and Italian Hotels)
February 2012: Still using this product. just returned from Germany and Africa and I still love it!! I just leave it right in my suitcase with my travel adaptors so its always ready to go!!

I wanted a small curling iron for my trip to Europe. I have shoulder length hair, but I really only needed something to curl my bangs a bit, so this works great. I would not recommend it for longer hair, unless you just want to curl the ends.Since the barrel is so small, you have to divide your hair into 1 inch sections to curl, and the clamp does not open as far as a larger iron, so it is harder to slide your hair into it. With care, it can be done, and the tip on the end is adequate to hold and not burn your fingers as you curl.
The iron's built in stand will not keep it sitting in place on your counter, but it will roll to the side, so be carefull where you place it when curling, as the iron gets pretty hot.
The bag that it comes in is not the same zippered bag shown in the picture. It is not zippered, just a sleeve to slide the iron in, and you have to leave the cord on the outside.
The iron is as I expected, and I curled not only my bangs, but the rest of my hair, just to test it, and the curls were the same as if I used a bigger iron, only I had to divide it into smaller sections. It is important to take extra care when using because the size and small opening clamp can make it akward and therefore easier to burn yourself.

My wife decided that she wanted a flat iron hair straightener and she thought this model looked the best. When she got it and used it for the first time she was very excited. It was easy to use and she got professional results doing it herself. I have included a video on the product and show the before and after results on her hair. My wife used the temperature setting between 2/3 and 3/4 of fully turned on all the way.
The model has some very good features and it really is a high quality product. Just a couple of issues you should be aware of:

2. The unit does not have an automatic shut off timer so make sure you turn it off or unplug it. If you have children I would unplug it and store it properly away after it was cooled off.

I set the heat near the middle of the temperature control knob. I'm guessing it was just a little over 300F. We put the argan oil in while we let the iron heat up. (It heats quickly!) It takes only a couple of drops. Just rub it on your palms and spread it through your hair. It makes the hair so smooth and gives it a nice sheen, without looking oily. And it smells so good! I could go on all day about the argan oil itself. I really love that stuff. :) Some reviews state that the iron didn't stay hot, but ours did. It took less than 30 minutes to straighten her hair and it came out pin straight. She walked around the house for the rest of the night grinning from ear to ear and playing with her hair. We were outside for 2-3 hours in the 80+ degree, humid weather and her hair remained straight and frizz free. Her dad also commented that her hair looked healthier.
I tried the straightener out myself the following night. I have fine, blonde hair that's easily damaged by any type of heating tool. My hair is straight, but on this particular evening I woke up with slight waves. I just really wanted to try the straightener on my hair. It only took about 10 minutes for me. I've only used a straightener on my own hair a couple of times before, but this iron is so much easier to use than any other one I've tried. I used the lowest heat setting and it worked perfectly.
Then, the night after that I used it to put curls in my ponytail. It took me few tries to get it right, but it made some really cute barrel curls. They were barely there after a night of work, but I didn't use any other styling products to hold the curls in just the argan oil and iron.
I have nothing bad to say about this flat iron. It exceeded my expectations and I would definitely recommend it. Just be careful where you sit it while you're using it or while it's cooling down, because it gets hot. The handle itself doesn't get hot, but the plates certainly do. We use the carrying pouch to rest it on while doing our hair then place it inside the pouch while it's cooling down. You could go ahead and buy a full size bottle of the argan oil, because you're going to fall in love with it. It doubles as a thermal protectant and leaves your hair looking smooth and healthy.

This came in a timely fashion. The extras (glove, oil, pouch) much appreciated. I almost sent it back though because I couldn't get it to turn on. I gave up and set it aside for a couple days. Then decided to give it one more shot. The reset button was hard to press. But once I got it going it heated up very fast and my hair stayed straight for two days after. Love the swivel cord too! After my straightener for the last five years finally gave its last croak a few weeks ago, I was in the market for a new straightener. Because of its reputation, I assumed I was going to get a CHI, but decided to look around a little first and came across this bad boy. After looking at all the positive reviews and awesome price I decided to give this baby a chance. I am so happy I did! The straightener works way better than my old one ever did, the black handles and black plates give it a very sleek and attractive appearance, and it even comes in its own red satin-y lined black box which makes it feel like pulling a sacred relic straight from Dracula's coffin. I would recommend getting some of the Argan oil too. I decided to try it out the sample first before I bought a bottle and I should have just bought it then. I ordered this flat iron for my little sister who has really thick hair and I'm not exaggerating when I say her hair is thick. Her hair is that in-between straight/wavy. Her old flat iron took nearly 2 hours to "straighten" her hair. Really, it didn't make much of a difference. After a few hours out in the southern weather her hair was back to a frizzy mess. So, I decided to surprise her with a new one.I was really impressed by the quality of the straightener even before we used it. It's really well made and the argan oil that's included smells incredible! (I just ordered a full size bottle.) You also get a glove to protect your hand from the heat. (It was way too big for either of us, but we have really tiny hands.) The plates on the iron are wide, but not too wide. It's the perfect width, in my opinion. It's comfortable to hold. The only reasons I bought this flat iron was because the price was right only $44.23 and the reviews were great. For $44 I thought it would be worth the risk of not knowing the manufacturer to go ahead and get this since it is a professional flat iron. I had been using a Chi iron. After reading several reviews on Amazon about how others had a CHI that broke, I thought it might be a good idea for me to get this as a backup in case my own CHI breaks soon. Now my old CHI is the backup and the HSI is my main one!This HSI flat iron is great. The features I love:

I wish I read reviews b/f I used this product.... It is completely awful and damaged my hair beyond repair. It is so damaged and fried that it won't even dry. I am left with an entire head of clumps of hair that look like fried wet cotton balls. I have cut as much as I can off it however, it is damaged less from a 1/4 inch from the roots and downward.
If that wasn't bad enough, it stripped my blonde hair and I have streaks of copper and orange from a color change.
I bet pure BLEACH and Gasoline would have done less damage than this did to my hair.

NEGATIVE 58 STARS!!!!Please do youself and your hair a favor and DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! I have no idea where these people came from that gave such great reviews, but my experience was horrible and so was my daughter's, as well as 2 other friends who tried this product. OMG my hair is RAVAGED! The texture is awful, it is extrememly dry, it is not sleek ad smooth at all. It looks and feels like crap. Drying time is not reduced and you still have to use your normal products that you use when you straighten your hair and you still have to use a straightening iron. This product is a complete waste of money and an utter failure.
I used the product as instructed. Washed, but didn't condition my hair and then applied the "20 Minute Serum." The serum stinks!! It smells just like a perm or relaxer, only stronger! I rinsed it out after 20 minutes without shampooing or conditioning as instructed. My hair felt totally damaged at this point. As soon as I rinsed the serum I could tell an absolute and total change in the texture of my hair and it was not good at all! It was almost impossible to comb out, so I added in some of the 2nd step cream hoping it would make a difference and make it easier to comb out. It did. At first I thought "Ah, that's much better" because it did actually make a difference my hair felt much better and I could comb through it now. My hair also smelled much better after applying the 2nd step cream, thank goodness! Well, as soon as I started blow drying my hair I could tell the damage was still totally present.
I had so much broken hair and hair falling out it wasn't even funny. I was really really p*ssed off. My hair is long almost to my butt, wavy and very healthy. I have done perms in the past and even chemical/permanent straighteners and I have never ever experienced this much damage and my hair has never felt this bad!
The instructions say to blow dry your hair straight and then use a straightening iron to get it totally straight. Well that right there defeats the purpose of the product! Anyway, I did this as instructed without using any of my other usual products. Ugh, it was horrible. I decided to use one of my favorite products for straightening my hair in hopes that I could get better results. I used Matrix Gold Heat spray which normally makes my hair so silky soft and smooth. Well not this time! My hair feels almost frizzy.. like each individual strand seems damaged. It is so dry. I have these little 1-2 inch pieces of broken hair that stick up everywhere now. I have fly aways like crazy. I am so mad right now just thinking about it! My Gold Heat helped a little, but not much. My hair still feels horrible. Also, as I was straightening with the iron, some sort of gunky build up was accruing on the plates of my iron. Of course my hair would stick to it and break off. I had to scrub it off of the plates. I have never had that happen with any other hair products! This Garnier has been a total nightmare. I soo wish I never tried it! My hair feels over processed, rough, dry and generally awful. I know several people who have tried this product and they all had the same results. That is too much of a coincidence. This product is totally pointless. It is supposed to cut drying time, smooth your hair, make it sleeker and straighten it. Umm, if you still have to use a straightening iron and your usual products, why bother to spend MORE on the Garnier and add yet another product?? Omgosh I am soo upset with this!
I am going to follow up with a good conditioning treatment (Pureology brand) and I guess I will have to go for a trim now too to get the dry dead ends off. Have I mentioned how mad this product has me?! Ughhhhh!
UPDATE 10/21/2010 It is now OVER A MONTH since using this product and my hair is still NOT back to normal. Despite using various deep conditioning treatments which were expensive and time consuming, I am still experiencing alot of breakage daily. My hair is still dry and the curl/waves have not yet come back to the way they were before using this product. Several nights I have shampooed and then applied conditioner and left it in my hair overnight and rinsed it in the morning. I believe that until my hair fully grows out, it is going to be in horrid condition. It is so upsetting. It took me YEARS to grow my hair this long and I have always received many compliments on it. Amazing how one product can ruin all that! I mean, this is my hair, a part of me, part of my identity. So very upsetting. This product needs pulled from the shelves. Even after getting my hair trimmed, it is only a matter of days until my ends are back in horrible shape again and that is not how my hair was previously. I now have "thin" hair since it keeps breaking off and falling out every day. I am afraid one day I will end up bald. This is ridiculous. I'd love to know how they tested this product before placing it on the shelves and selling it to the public. How could they not know this would happen??
Please, please do not try this product.
UPDATE 1/23/2011 So it is now January and my curls are back to normal FINALLY! My hair is still dry though. I have to keep using heavy conditioners, leave in conditioners and conditioning treatments. I still experience ALOT of breakage as well. I am happy that my curls did finally return to normal for the most part, but I am disappointed that my hair is still so darn dry. I guess I will have to keep getting it cut more often in order to get ALL the hair cut off that had the product on it. My new growth seems to be ok, but all else is drier than it has ever been. Ugh, one day it will be back to normal, I suppose.

When I got this a couple of years ago, I too thought the design was odd. Then I started noticing the dryers that the professional use. The switches were in the same place. The reason is.most hairdressers are right handed. They hold the hairdryer with their left hand and the brush they use for styling with their right. They like to have the switches where they don't have to take their hands off the dryer to change settings. This design allow easy access with their fingers to the switches. If you hold this dryer in your left hand, you'll see that is how it's designed. It's the difference between a hairdryer designed for a professional stylist and a consumer. You do get used to it but you have to remember, this is a professional hairdryer, meant for professional hair dressers. The dryer itself works great. If you are naturally left handed, you won't notice anything odd about the switch placement.

This hairdryer is fast, which is great because it is so uncomfortable to hold you want to get the drying over with as soon as possible. The on-off switches are pointy and right on the handle, so if you hold the handle as it's meant to be held, your palm is repeatedly jabbed by the switches. This is the best hairdryer I have ever owned. The on/off switches are placed for professional use, but once you get used to it, there is no problem. This dryer is not only FAST, but it leaves my hair supersoft and straight. I have coarse/thick hair, so finding a dryer do to the trick has been difficult my whole life. My daughter (long/thick but not coarse hair) used it when she was home and loved it also. I highly recommend this dryer!

Fit dryer perfectly. It's very snug, however, which is good so that it doesn't easily fall off. Tip on installation --Recommend placing the diffuser face down on counter and insert the dryer nozzle straight down. This worked right away.

I got this hair dryer instead of just getting a diffuser attachment for mine since it was so inexpensive. The hair dryer is chinsey, I don't know how else to describe it. Very light, but in a cheap way. The diffuser is all plastic and just spreads the air out a little bit. It's an effective shape, but since the air just goes straight through in to the "fingers" it's not really diffused. It just holds your hair so you don't have to. My biggest issue with this dryer is that it has almost no mesh over the intake. If you get your hair remotely close to it, it sucks it in and turns small portions at a time in to knotted twisted messes that cannot be untangled. The first time it happened, I had to cut the piece just to detach the hair dryer from my head. I felt like I was using a travel dryer from the 80's. it doesn't have very many settings and isn't very comfortable to hold. I went, almost immediately, back to my old dryer which weighs twice as much, but is more comfortable-not to mention that it doesn't eat my hair... It would be a great product, but because of the difference between Japan and US electric, it gets so hot you can't use it. I couldn't even finish using it on my hair ONCE--it burned my hand and hair. They refunded my money, but need to quit selling it. They already know about this problem and I guess figure not everyone will make the effort to get their money back. Its a scam.

I was looking for stores that carry this type of dryer online, but couldn't find it, so I order it online. It is sooo much easier than hold a dryer and style with a blush. I basically purchased this because I wanted something low noise, and for that it is great. It doesn`t style my hair I still have to use a flat iron, but it does dry it easily and quickly. I liked that it is not heavy at all.
