I was suspicious when I found this product for $30 at a beauty supply place. That seemed kind of low for 30 heated rollers. I got even more suspicious when I found out that they were "just" sponge rollers and had to be "heated" one at a time.

I gave it a try anyway, since I haven't had much luck with conventional dry hot rollers. This unit shoots hot steam through each roller, which takes only a few seconds apiece, so you heat them as you go. You can also steam-heat the clips (they call them "shields") so the hair on the roller gets heated from both sides. Then you can just let them cool off on their own, or help them along with a hair dryer.

I still had my doubts about this product since the rollers, when steamed, didn't seem very hot (compared to regular dry hot rollers). But the sponge rollers grabbed my hair well and the "shields" kept them from unwinding or falling out, which was already a big plus over other hot rollers.

To my surprise, the curls really did take. In fact, they were curlier than I had intended. It may take some practice to get the results I need, but it looks very promising.

Some of the rollers looked squashed when I took them out, because I had wound the hair around them so tightly (habit). I was afraid I had ruined them. I put them back on the steaming unit, and they returned to normal within seconds!

The curls were still there when I woke up this morning. That was a real shock. I have ultra-straight, ultra-fine hair. I have trouble getting even the best hot rollers to stay in, if I can get my hair to roll around them in the first place. The resulting "curls" are but a distant memory by the end of the day. But not these curls. I slept on them, and didn't even spray them, and they were still there the next day. I was sad that I had to wash them out (I wasn't very careful putting them in last night since I was just testing them, so I didn't have any sort of presentable hairstyle).

This unit should travel well, since the steaming unit is small, a little bigger than a memo cube. It comes with five different sizes of rollers, and there's a mail-order form where you can get more rollers in any size if you need them they're pretty cheap.

I bought this after reading all (well mostly) positive reviews. I always loved the way my hair looked when it was curled, but if I used a curling iron or hot rollers, my hair would uncurl in a few minutes. This is the only product I can use to curl my hair. There are a few tricks and tips I would tell people.

1. Make sure your hair is completely dry before you roll them.

2. Don't leave the curler on the steaming unit too long.

3. Steam the sheild before putting it in place

4. After you wait the 10 minutes for the curl to set, take the time and blow dry the curls on the cool heat setting. This sets the curl and can make it last for days longer.

5. If possible, use distilled water.

6. If you have read any other reviews, I'm sure you've heard about the unit dying after a few months. Actucally, the machine just needs to be cleaned!!!! Minerals in tap water build up and cause blockages on the inside, all you have to do is mix 1 tablespoon of vinger and full with water to the line. Plug in the steamer and wait 5-10 minutes, you should start to see steam. Let this run til it is not getting anymore water and your steamer with be just like new.

This is absolutely the best curling product out there!

Okay, first I am an African-American and I love my new rollers!! I recently retired my hot curlers and have moved on to bigger and better things. I'm a licensed Cosmetologist and I recommend this product to my clients who like to curl their hair on a daily basis. My hair is sooooo soft, manageable, shiny, and did I mention bouncy. Goodness I sound like an infomercial I'm so excited. Get a set and try them for yourself.

Honest reviews on Caruso Molecular Steam Hairsetter

I have long hair. It measures more than five feet and is very fine and arrow straight. I have been using Caruso since 1994 with no damage to my hair not even on the ends. I have read some of the reviews by people who did not have luck using Caruso and have added some tips which may help those with difficult to curl hair like mine.

When you shampoo your hair, be sure to use a good quality curl enhancing shampoo that is formulated specifically to encourage curl and don't use a conditioner that makes your hair incredibly soft. A light conditioner or even better, a good bodifying conditioner are your best choices.

Mist your hair lightly with a really good flexible hair spray before you roll your curls. I mist the section I am curling while the curler is heating on the unit, and then I use a natural boar bristle brush to air dry and smooth the hair before curling. Don't forget that it is absolutely imperative that your hair be completely dry before you roll it.

If you need your set to last for many hours, make your curls somewhat tighter than you want them to be and heat the clamp that holds the curler as well. The less hair in each curler, the curlier the results so for a full head of curls which can create an explosion of bouncing curls, use as many curlers as you can possibly fit onto your head.

For spirals which gives consistent curl from top to bottom start at the roots and wrap your hair around the roller until you reach the ends then clamp. The best thing about spiral curls is that the resulting curl is consistent from top to bottom, something that cannot be achieved when long hair is wrapped on a curler and the curler becomes thicker as you continue to wrap more hair around it plus the hot roller is in direct contact with the oldest and most fragile portion of your hair.

Before you unroll your curls give it a thorough shot of COLD air from either your bonnet dryer or a blow dryer. I use a regular tabletop fan on the highest setting (which is kept in the bathroom); the extra cool air circulation helps to set the curl. Then with the fan on the lowest setting, I carefully unroll the curler and immediately re-roll the curl with fingers and clip it to my head to hold in place until I have all the curlers removed.

The look you want determines what to do next. For a head full of spiral curls, use your fingers to gently divide each curl into separate spirals. For a head full of gorgeous messy curls, bend over at your waist and finger comb your hair until you have the look and fullness you want. For old-time Hollywood glamour, gently brush your curls with a boar bristle brush until you achieve that Veronica Lake look.

Once you have your hair styled the way you want it, resist the urge to keep playing with it and give it the final shot of spray. The more you mess with it, the more your curls will loosen. Also, don't use a hard set super hold spray or your hair will move like it's all one piece.

Then just be careful of crushing your curls under coats or against car seats, or in my case sitting on it.

In my opinion Caruso is the safest heated curling solution on the market which gives consistant and quick results.

Like some other reviewers, I really miss the original Caruso units that required salt. I guess I wasn't the only one who was nearly electrocuted on the metal prong several times. That didn't stop me from using it until it croaked though. The original set truly made curls that would last for days. This new set is somewhat disappointing. It's better than the Revlon steam rollers, but I'm still not completely satisfied with the product. My curls only last for a day. Since I have long hair and only wash my hair every few days, I need more lasting curls. Some people have complained that the curlers start to deteriorate. I believe that is caused from using the curlers after applying gel or hairspray or other hair products. These curlers should be used only on freshly washed hair. The only other complaint I have is that it the size of the curler is embossed in hard to read print and is on the opposite side of the curler than it should be. Since the curlers will logically be placed with with the marked size down, it is hard to tell which size is which. I usually group them in sizes, so I don't have to think about it. The jumbo and large sizes look the same from the bottom and so do the small and extra small. Overall, the curlers work as well as regular hot rollers, but they are much less damaging. They do take more time to use though, since it is necessary to heat one roller at a time. I probably would have given them 5 stars if I hadn't used the original Carusal rollers.
