I know it is hard to believe, but the unit that just failed, I installed about 40 years ago, controlling originally 10 40 watt incandescent bulb lamp fixtures outdoors. About 10 years ago, I switched over to CFL bulbs, and maybe because of the quantity of bulbs (10), I never had any problem with the bulbs burning out prematurely or blinking, etc. Or maybe the actual switch device in this unit is not solid state, but a mechanical contact set. In any case, I hope these last. The original never really FAILED, it just requires more daylight now than it used to and the outdoor lights were on for too many hours during the day.
I installed it yesterday, 8/18/13, and it works just fine. The original unit I removed, had a date stamp on it of 12/74! If this unit lasts 10 years, I will be ecstatic. Who knows?
