After a long line of past FAILS... PLEASE PLEASE learn from our mistakesall but one straightener (the first) was more expensive than this one!

Straightener #1 Metal plates, smell of burnt hair throughout the house

Straightener #2 Had ceramic plates, but you have to sort of contort your hand to keep from hitting the heat settings and on off controls

Straightener #3 Ceramic platesheated to salon level Controls not on outside, you can reach in and hit the on/off, but actual heat settings very difficult to see. Resultshair looks ..STIFF-Straight after using this. Had to wash hair and straighten the night before so it relaxes a bit.

Straightener #4 2" ceramic Wet /Dry with vents hair of course sizzles when using it wet. It was just heavy and it takes some hand strength to close it. Had a distinct smell of burning hair. If the steam from the wet hair option doesn't burn you, using it on dry hair it is unbearably hot for way too long.

Straightener # 5 Plates did not meet evenly, touched only at the end pulled hair outcracked when you tried to make the plates touch. Went out on the next trash day.

Sraightener #6 Checked out best straighteners on the web purchased a CHI for 150.00 we have grown weary and low on cash because of the anti theft device the store applies you can't read details we opened it in the car parking lot discovered plates don't meet AT ALL ....certainly not going to break it trying to press them together, also ........NO HEAT SETTINGS at all?? How strange.

Because of the way it was packaged, we carefully put back in box, walked back into the store shortly after, got our money back on this one.

I just got this on Christmas (I'm using my dad's account) and I am in love with it. It took a lot of time picking it out because I wanted a good flat iron, and this one really is!

Although I've only had it for a day, I really love it.

Pros:

-heats of in 30 sec. to a minute

-looks nice

-light

-swival cord/long

-it has a lock for the buttons so you don't accidently hit them and change something (you lock it by holding down the minus button)

-glides through hair

-floating plates (which means the plates have a little "give" or "bounce" to them when you press them together)

-leaves hair pin straight, shiny and soft (and I have fairly curling/thick hair)

Cons:

-leaves hair hot right after you run it through

-the outside of the plates gets rather warm

-it has a funny smell (which is the avocado oil, I'm sure. It says the heat "activates" it, so I think that's the smell)

Overall this flat iron is a great buy. I gave it FOUR STARS out of five because of the minor cons (but none of them should keep you from buying this product!)

I will update this review after I've owned it for a little longer. But I say BUY IT!

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I almost wish I hadn't read the reviews before trying out this straightner. Maybe then I wouldn't have been so disappointed, especially when I saw that someone else preferred it over my favorite Healthy Infusions by Wahl Pro Straightener, 1 1/4". I opened up the Remington S9950 Shine Therapy Straightener, 1" this weekend when I knew that I would have at least an hour to spend trying it out. If you take a look at my profile picture you can see I have mid-back length, medium thickness, naturally curly hair. It is not easy to straighten, but it is fun to do every once in a while so having a quality straightener is important.

Before turning the iron on I read through the instructions and got an idea of what temperature setting I should use along with some tips. I set the unit at 370*F, locked it in and waited for it to heat up.

I then started piece by piece on my hair, but unfortunately less than one third the way through I had to stop and here's why: With my hair thickness and curl, a straightener needs to clamp down tightly for me to be able to get a smooth result. This straightener doesn't close tightly without you holding the ends together because of the floating plates. Now this wouldn't have been a problem if it weren't for the fact that the outside of the unit gets nearly as hot as the inside. Fifteen minutes in and my fingers were red, scorched and burning so I gave up! I ended up plugging in my Healthy Infusions by Wahl Pro Straightener, 1 1/4" and finishing the job. (There I have posted before and after pictures on my review of it)

Now onto the good. Just because it didn't work for me didn't mean I was giving up, so I lent it to my daughter to try out and she loved it! Her hair is much finer with just waves, no curls and doesn't require so much pressure. Previously she was using this Andis 67690 1-Inch Nano-Silver Tourmaline Wet or Dry Ceramic Flat Iron and although she was happy, she says the Remmington is so much better for her hair. It kept it straight even over night and that really surprised her.

So my recommendation would be that although this might not be great for those of us with thick curly hair, based on my daughters review and that of many others it probably works just fine on other types of hair. I can say that I like the look of the Remington Straightener, very feminine. I also wish I could give it more stars, but because the unit gets so hot on the outside I really do feel this is a huge flaw and potentially a recipe for disaster.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I really was not expecting much at all from a flat iron in this pice range. My regular flat iron is a Sedu that cost close to $150, and this little flat iron gives it a run for its money. It doesn't get as hot as my Sedu, but it gets darn close (430 vs 450) and it heats up much faster.

Remington is doing themselves a real disservice by calling this a straightener. The size and shape of the barrel allows it to do everything my Sedu does, and nearly just as well. I was able to use it for volume, root lift, curls and waves. It also added a lot of shine.

I marked it down one star for two reasons:

1. The button placement is awkward. If all you are doing is straightening this might not be an issue, but once you start trying to twist the barrel to add curls or volume you will end up hitting the buttons. Eventually I will probably get used to them and it won't be an issue anymore.

2. The plates could be tapered along the edges more. I have to be careful not to put lines in my hair, and my Sedu almost never does that. This is an issue that can come up even with just straightening.

Even with those two "dings" this is an excellent deal. It sort of makes me sad I spent $150 on my stupid Sedu!

This is my third iron in 2 years. This one works just as well or better then the expensive ones I have over 150 dollars. Your hair will be silky smooth and stay that way just like when you get it done.

The reviews point out 2 issues the user of this iron has to deal with to get best results.

1. It is easy to hit the buttons by mistake as you use it. So put your temp chosen on lock. You hold the plus minus button down until you see a lock.It is in the instructions so be sure to read them

2. The plates are supposed to float.It did not bother me at all but you may want to practice on a low setting or not turned on at all, if it is an issue for you.

It is a great product that leaves my course ( from gray covered by color over 10 years) hair really looking hairdresser good.

Andis RC-2 Ionic1875W Ceramic Hair Dryer with Folding Handle Review

This is the only ceramic, ionic blow dryer with a retractable cord that I could find on the market and I am very pleased with it. My fiance loves it because the cord doesn't get tangled or clutter up the bathroom counter. I love it because it's a great size and performs well-drying hair very quickly. The only reason I hesitated from giving it 5 stars is that it is a bit heavy (because of the ceramic core, I suppose). Lastly I think the product could be improved with a more ergonomic handle.

I recently got to try this hair dryer in a Marriott hotel and was pleasantly surprised. At home I had the Sharper image 1875W quiet Ionic hair dryer and this is what I am comparing it to. I went thru two of the Sharper images ones (first one broke) which are much more expensive and my biggest complaint always was that it scorched my head.

Problems gone since I bought this. It is an awesome hair dryer. It lays in your hands comfortably, is sturdy and stores away in a breeze as it folds in the middle, plus you can retract the cord. On top of that it does not scorch or burn your head and also has the cool air feature (same as the Sharper Image) and my hair comes out nice, soft and never frizzy. At a price between $18 and $22 this is the hair dryer to buy. I did, and only wish I had known about this hair dryer earlier. I highly recommend it.

Update on 9/26/2009: Almost 3 years later we're still on the same hair dryer. The cord needs a little help to retract but nothing has given up on it yet. It has been dropped a few times too. For the price that is excellent and we have purchased a second unit for our other bathroom. Much better than the Sharper image version which is way more expensive, scorches your head and won't last long.

I eagerly snapped up this ionic hair dryer about over a year ago because of it's retractable cord and folding capabilities. Even the price was attractive. It really did take up little room in my bathroom drawer and the retractable cord was a plus. I thought I had the perfect blow dryer because it did what it was supposed to do and quickly. Now for the bad news: the retractable cord became chewed up and frayed after daily use and it became apparent that the cord was ultimately going to fray completely in due time. Then, the folding handle, low and behold, broke in half one morning. (Of course, the warranty had long expired). This dryer is too fragile to consider using on a daily basis and I consider myself a careful person when it comes to handling small appliances such as hair dryers. When I've replaced hair dryers in the past, it was been because they've simply reached the end of their lifespans and burned out. I'd caution anyone to consider this before buying because these 2 features alone, while very appealing, can shorten an otherwise good hairdryer's lifespan. I've now purchased a T3 Tourmaline (a featherweight, quiet hairdryer with no retractable cord or folding handle) which seems to work just fine and appears to have a much longer lifespan.

I think this dryer is a great deal for the money, especially with the added features of the retractable cord, folding handle and multiple speed settings. This was my first ionic/ceramic hair dryer and I was not disappointed. There is a real difference from the old style dryers namely the air coming out is not as hot yet it dries in about the same amount of time or less. While I haven't tried it yet during the humid summer months when my hair frizzes out, right now my hair is unbelievably smooth after drying. I like to use this dryer with my Solia straightener which is also takes away every ounce of frizz. Where were these amazing hair products when I was a teenager??

Pros:

1. This blow dryer is great for the price. Just don't expect a $100+ ionic dryer. You get a nice $18 dryer for $18 simple.

2. Nice looking, sleek design, with retractable cord. This is not a compact dryer for travel it should be considered more of a "mid-size".

Cons:

1. Retractable cord is quite short, which could be a problem if your outlet is not very close by.

2. Very loud! I saw others complain about this, and now I know what they mean. It's loud.

3. The retractable cord failed to retract after a couple of uses. This is disappointing considering it was a major factor in my purchase.

Bottom Line:

Does it dry hair quickly and make it smooth and silky?? No more than any other dryer. It's a nice, inexpensive, blow dryer, but I personally would not purchase it again.

I have very fine hair and for years have struggled to find a product that gives it body without weighing it down. Thick does the trick! I have had stylists create beautiful 'do's' using everything from mousse to gel to lifters applied at the root, but they all had the same results. 30 minutes after leaving the salon, my 'do' started to collapse into a head hugging 'don't'. My last blow dryer lasted almost 30 years. I was having trepidation about finding anything as good. This dryer is light weight, has the cool button feature that I like and is Ionic. It's been a while since I've used clip on hair. I decided to give this a shot because I'm trying to grow my bangs out and I had a baby a year ago. My bangs at that length where its in the way but too short to tie back without looking like theres a hair fountain shooting out the top of my head. On top of that, I have a bunch of baby hair growing back after all the shedding I've done after my hormonal spurts due to the pregnancy, birth, and nursing.

This clip is OUTSTANDING. The one I got has two clips next to each other that have a great grip on your hair. You pop that clip open, slide it in and pop it back down. So simple!

When you first put it on, it needs some shaking and adjusting so it's not so flat and "staged". I've been wearing it for two days and it's looking better than yesterday. It blends in very easily as long as your hair color matches the clip on. It feels very natural, silky, and soft. Not hard and rough like most cheap synthetic clip ons and wigs. It doesn't itch and is very lightweight so its comfortable to wear for the entire work day.

The fringes on the side make it easy to blend in. I got it delivered to the office. I carpool with my mom. I pulled up to pick her up at the end of the day and she didn't even look at me. When she turned to say something to me, she jumped in her seat and said OH MY GOD WHAT DID YOU DO! You cut your hair AGAIN?!

HAHA! I told her yea. I was so bored at work, I hacked off my bangs again. She had no idea it was a clip on. As we sat in traffic I popped it off and handed it to her. We laughed our butts off all the way home.

If my mom couldn't tell (and she JUST saw me that same morning), this is a pretty good deal!

Tip: As another reviewer said, if you have long bangs that don't part to the side very well (like mine do), you might want to clip it back somehow in a way that doesn't get in the way of the clips of the falsie. Or your natural bangs will fall forward and get in the way of the clip on.

The clip on is a little shiny when you first get it. So in very bright lighting, it can be noticeable.

I purchased this product at Walgreens for $14.99. I saw the Air Curler on TV and am always looking for an easier and quicker way to curl my hair. It took me a long time just to put the product together and when I finally got it connected, the hair dryer kept falling out of the "secure" nozzle. I sprayed my hair damp (just like it tells you to do), grabbed a small section of hair and put it in the bucket. When I turned the blow dryer on, I saw my hair swirl like a "tornado" and left it in for about 20 seconds. I took my hair out of the bucket and it was a messy, limp strand of hair. My boyfriend walked in the bathroom after trying the same section of hair over and over and said my hair "looked horrible". I couldn't agree more. I will be promptly returning this product and will recommend for you to not even waste your time! This product is the quintessential "too good to be true".

I had to laugh at myself as I bought this thing after seeing the commercial, but so help me, it actually worked! I did need to use the rubber band thingy it came with to hold in the hair dryer better. I tried it on my shoulder length hair first, using several small sections. It made small, tight curls that looked really crazy until I lightly finger combed them out. I wanted to try it again though, so I also did my mom's and my niece's hair. Both have longer than shoulder length hair. I did four sections of their hair, and it made nice big waves.

This morning, I dried my roots, did four sections, and let them set while I did my make-up. Then I just finger separated the curls and gave them a light spray with hairspray. LOVE IT!

The downside: It's big and clumsy, so have a plan as to where to keep it. AND you kind of feel like a dork using it.

I own three pieces of Swiss Gear (SG) luggage, two SG computer bags, and an SG shoulder bag and love them all. Unfortunately, the travel bag left me less than impressed, and I ended up selling it. Perhaps it is geared more for male users, but I found it lacking in the number/type of organizing pockets I would have expected in a Swiss Gear product--in particular, the outside pockets for shampoo bottles made it bulky and hard to pack in a suitcase. In addition, I found the angled zipper heads hard to use. All in all, three stars may be a bit too generous.

My hairstylist recommended this hair dryer--it is the one she uses on my hair at the salon. My hair always looks better after she styles it--and I use the same shampoo and brush that she does--that meant it was time to invest in the dryer. The dryer is pretty quiet and light. Seems like it is made well enough--must be since my stylist has been using it everyday (multiple times) for more than 3 years. I looked at upgrading since there are newer CHI's out there--but this one was cheaper and I knew for sure that it would do a good job. I don't regret not getting one of their fancier more powerful models--I'm not trying to fry my hair, just dry and shape it. After my other professional hairdryer died (did a good job--but got crushed in an accident), I began using a $20 cheapie--what a mistake. When people tell you that all hairdryers are the same, it is because they don't really know. My research has indicated that CHI is only brand on the market with full ceramic components--not just ceramic coated. I really didn't want to spend all this money--but my hair actually looks much better and others have noticed. I would recommend this dryer--it was worth the price to me.

Purchased this hair dryer six months ago and the heating element failed. Pretty short lifespan for a dryer. Called mfg. and was told warranty is VOID if purchased online (I confirmed this on Chi's website) and they also stated Amazon is not an authorized retailer. Amazon made good on the warranty after a few phone calls and sent a replacement unit.

This warranty exclusion applies to all Farouk Systems products according to the mfg. I'm sure Amazon will honor the existing warranties but be prepared for a little extra work if your unit fails.

After purchasing numerous dryers and returning them for various reasons, my hairdresser recommended this one as she bought one. I love it. It is low on noise. Others I tried were so loud they hurt my ears while I was drying my hair. It does not blow too hard, blowing your hair all over the place. It seems to dry it faster and reduces the frizziness. The heat is hot enough but not so hot it burns your face or scalp. Lastly, it is not too heavy. I bought one for my daugher also, and she really likes it. Hopefully it will last a long time.

I was skeptical that this 1300 watt dryer would do the job of typical 1850 watt models but the CHI does an excellent job -even with the heat setting switched off. Although this is the most expensive hair dryer I've purchased, I'm totally satisfied with the results so far. Excellent build quality and perfect size makes it well worth the money.

This flat iron is great! I asked my hair stylist which one to purchase and she recommended this one. I have no previous experience with using a flat iron but I quickly caught on and my hair comes out great. I wish there had been some instructions included with the product but I found guidelines for proper temperature on the internet. Highly Recommended!!!

This is the best straightener I ever used! I have super thick curly hair. With this iron I was able to get it dead sleeky straight in about 40 minutes. With my old straighteners it used to take close to 2 hours and it would never come out that straight or shiny. It heats up in a matter of seconds and is a lot cheaper than its competitors. I've had my Paul Brown flat iron for 7 years and it's still delivering. It heats up in seconds, and the irons are in perfect condition. The little name cap that covers the corner fell off some time past, but it still works great. This past Christmas I decided to try a Chi. I've always been wary of the hype with Chi and from reviews they don't seem to last more than a few years. However I decided I had to give one a try, so I bought the (gorgeous) Aurora LE a week ago. I was impressed with the performance at first. I did a back and forth comparison between it and my PB on alternate days. At first I thought the Chi was better, then I realized the Chi wasn't any better than my PB, then I saw for sure my PB outperformed the Chi and after using using the Chi only twice before, on the third use it began to snag my hair like a cheap iron What? Ugh! And that was using their Iron Guard product that came with the iron! My PB has NEVER EVER snagged my wavy hair no matter what I've had in or on it. So the Chi's going back to the store and I'm going to keep using PB forever. BTW, I also have an FHI Platform and I paid a lot of money for it it is an expensive professional iron, and ladies it SUCKS compared to PB!! I never use.

I love how this straightens my hair without stripping the moisture from my hair. I use this iron about four times a week. Instead of drying out my hair, it makes my hair smooth and shiny. I won't travel without this iron. I also use it to curl my hair.

So, Im not to pleased at all to find out this FHI Platform may not be authentic. When i rec'd this item on 3/1/13 I was egaer to use it. After the initial few flips on my hair with this styling tool i realized that some of the white lettrerings had rubbed off.I called the Official FHI website, and the rep stated that Amazon is not an official retailer of theres.. only beautychoice.com, and that if something happened to the flatiron I have no warranty at all. I will contact Amazon directly in regards to this matter... once I locate their phone number.

Well, I don't know where this product is from, or how Amazon got there hands on it. From an unknown buyer, you would think the flat iron was the real thing, but for some reason, it didn't seem right to me.

So, I hook them up to get ready to use and realize that the lowest temp is 176 degrees vs 140 degrees that it's supposed to be. Then I realize that there aren't any in between degrees... The dial goes from 176 degrees to 450 degrees and I guess I was suppossed to guess at the temps between them. I knew something had to be wrong because there were so many sites stating the temp that should be used for my hair texture and it wasn't 176 degrees or 450 degrees!

And, another thing, I found the real ones (BeautyChoice.com per the FHI Heat customer service rep) for less than $20 more (check for online coupon codes).

My hairdresser uses this flat iron and I loved how it made my hair straight and silky. I got one for home and was quite happy that I got the same results at home as I did at the salon. My hair is natural and I don't have to work hard at all to straighten it. I like that it has an adjustable temperature control, my hair is fine in texture so too high of a setting could burn it easily. I love love this flat iron!
