Remington S8590 Keratin Therapy Straightener with Smart Sensor Review

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I have been cursed with Zimba's hair, my hair can be described as a Lion's mane. What do I mean by that? Thin, frizzy hair, not exactly curly, though not straight either and with a tendency to occupy three times its volume. It has the advantage of being super malleable, I can do whatever I want with it and the disadvantage of getting ruined by just whispering at it. That means, I have a love-hate relationship with hair straighteners since I was twelve. I love how my hair looks when I use them, shiny, tidy, easy to handle, but on the other hand, use it twice and my hair starts to show all the signs of destruction.
This straightener has a few key features that help with that:
The Keratin Therapy Bath: Helps the hair look shiny and keeps it protected, though I think it gives the straightner an odd and a little nasty smell when heated.
The fact that one can control the temperature: Super easy to determine which temperature to use to straighten your hair, great for people like me that have hair that is thin and easy to straighten but also easy to damage. Granted, using it in the lowest setting can make the straightening process a little longer and a little less effective, but it is worth it for every day use if you don't want to ruin your hair.
I must say I used it a couple of times and so far, it doesn't look like it is damaging my hair too much, which is great.
Another great feature, that it automatically shuts off after a while, just in case you forget and it also has a locking mechanism that makes burning yourself less likely.
Overall I think it is a good product.
Things I didn't like:
* It was hard to run thru my hair... it doesn't glide through like my other one. I basically had to tug it through, ensuring that I became painfully aware of my hair's damaged condition. FYI, my hair isn't like crazy-lady damaged like a wild & crunchy mane, just dry from coloring & straightening. I often get compliments on it often because it looks so "silky".
* Because it has a sensor that senses damage, I had trouble straightening the ends of my hair that are the most damaged. This is because the straightener is built to lower the heat to stop further damage. While the idea is good, if I didn't persist with the ends of my hair, I'd end up with lampshade shaped hair. Ironed flat on the top, triangular fly-away ends on the bottom.
* I found the same amount of hair breakage in my sink when I used this model. Not sure what that says about their heat sensor technology, except for that it may not work as well as advertised? Not sure.
* The heat sensor prevented me from fully straightening my hair, therefore it didn't look silky or healthy.
In the end, I prefer my wide plated straightener and went back to it right away. Honestly, who wants to think about how damaged their hair is while styling? It was as though I was being punished. Frankly, I damage my hair, then cut, and repeat. Who cares, it's not like it's affecting my health or infringing on other's happiness.
BOTTOM LINE: If you have ANY previous damage, this model makes it harder to style your hair.
There is a digital readout on the side that shows how hot the straightener gets which is supposed to help you not burn your hair, I think this can only help if you know at what temp. your hair begins to burn. This Remington gets super hot so it would be helpful to know at what point your hair gets fried so you don't turn it up all the way and have your hair start to break off. You can play with the heat with 5 different settings to figure out how high you need the heat to straighten your hair.
There is a thin strip in the center of the ceramic plates and this is the heat sensor for the temperature read out, my daughter said it pulled on her hair a bit and she could hear a pulling noise, but I haven't experienced that. I think her hair is more damaged from using heating products and this may be a problem for her damaged ends. I would consider using the straightener setting in the lower 300s if you have some damage and don't venture into the 400 zone on this unit at all (it goes up to 450) if your ends are bad. This is a high heat tool. If you are serious about your straighteners this could be one you will really like. It has keratin infused plates that are supposed to last a full four years and it comes with a four year warranty, so it's a serious straightener and worth the price and I think it's competitive with the higher priced tools. If you are a casual user and just want a straightener to use once in while, Remington has straighteners without all the bells and whistles that this one has, and they all seem to work very well. We have three or four Remingtons and we pretty much like them all-especially the flatirons with 1 inch plates like this one. There are three of use in the family that use these products on a regular basis.
All in all, this is a really nice looking straightener (I use them for curls and waves though and have long thrown out my curling iron)-it has auto shut off, temp read out and you can set it to any temp. you want. It heats up super, super fast, and gets really hot, professional temperatures, so be careful on the higher heats and always use a protector on your hair. I use a Wen cream that heat protects my ends but they can still get burned even with normal straighteners. If you are looking for a pretty, new, super hot unit, this one is great and the four year warranty is a plus. If you already have a lot of damage, this isn't going to cure your hair but if you want to keep your hair healthy and don't already have damage, this unit can certainly help you maintain the health of your hair.
The Remington Keratin Therapy Straightener not only straightened my hair. It did it in 10 minutes. I section the pieces off and before you know it. Straight hair.
When I tell people about this particular straightener, the first thing I mention is that it is "smart". Straightening hair is very damaging on the hair. The Remington has a senor in the top plate that detects the amount of damage to the hair and delivers only the amount of heat necessary making it the most safe straightener I have ever used. My hair has always been on the dry side so I tend to not over do any kind of heating to it. Knowing that my hair is actually getting less damage, makes me want to straight more often.
As for the Keratin, this was the most interesting feature to me. While I know that Keratin is a natural protein in our hair. I was unsure what difference it would make as far as being in a straightener. My hair felt much silkier than ever.
Another plus that I keep mentioning to everyone when I discuss the Remington Keratin Therapy Straightener is that usually when I am flattening my hair, I cannot touch the hair. It is way too hot. I thought it would be the same but it wasn't. I am assuming this was due to the sensor placing less heat but if that was the case I would think it would have taken more run throughs for the straightening that I got.
Pluses:
Less heat on the hair shaft due to the sensor
Keratin conditioning is amazing for your hair
Heats up in less time than my last 3 straighteners (ready to go in 30 seconds)
Automatic shut off in 60 minutes. Love that. As someone who always worries about this even though I don't have to (OCD, I guess) it is good to know.
Price! I paid over $130 for my current (prior to this one) and it doesn't do half the job.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program A few things I liked about the Remington Keratin Therapy Straightener is that I had more control over creating waves or "curl under" than with my other straightener, also a Remington. My other one is a Remington S9520 Ceramic Straightener with Pearl Infused Wide Plates.Things I didn't like:
* It was hard to run thru my hair... it doesn't glide through like my other one. I basically had to tug it through, ensuring that I became painfully aware of my hair's damaged condition. Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This flatiron is very pretty silver color and it has a smooth taper on the end that makes it easier to use and hold while using. Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I must admit. I was skeptical that this little straightener would work with my hair. I have extremely thick hair, waist length and super wavy. I chose a rating of four stars because I was trying to order a Revlon 2" brush to replace the old one I had. This works well but the core combined with the bristles made it too big to achieve the curl I wanted. The description in Amazon listed as medium or large but they need to list in inches. The brush is nice quality though.Best Deals on Revlon Perfect Style Ion + Ceramic Brush
it does its jobs well. I am neither a stylist nor an expert with hair products. i needed a good brush to use with hairdryer and it dies its job well.Honest reviews on Revlon Perfect Style Ion + Ceramic Brush
This brush worked great the first time I used it and then the second time It broke. The glue holding it together isn't strong enough, or melted with the heat of a blow dryer. Either way, it didn't even last me two blowouts.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Revlon Perfect Style Ion + Ceramic Brush
Works well used with blow dryer or on it's own. Good for medium to long hair. Very useful for keeping hair smooth and for styling. Easy to remove hair from the brush and keep it clean. This is actually my favorite brush ever! Will definitely buy and recommend Revlon brand for brushes to others.Paul Mitchell Seal And Shine 8.5oz Review

This is absolutely worth the money. Like all women, I've gone thru a lot of hairdryers. This is the BEST one I've ever owned!
Pro's: very lightweight; easy to maneuver around, 3 different heat settings (HI, MED LO) and 2 differnt speeds (HI and LO); fits nicely in my hand (I have very small hands); the toggle switches are just the right stiffness and placement I never accidentally turn it off or switch settings anymore; most of all...my hair dries really fast and shiny (I have long hair and I use a bit of thermal styling protection spray).
Con's: hmm...can't really think of anything major. The only con I can think of is the little nozzle attachment that comes with it. The attachment just sits on the end of the dryer, and is not really snug or tight. It sometimes pops off if I have the blower on HI speed and I point the nozzle straight down. The force of the air coming out "blows off" the little thing. but it's really minor.
All in all, I love it!

I could never understand why my hair didn't style at home like it did in the salon. I used my stylist's products down to the shampoo and conditioner. I love this hairdryer. It is not heavy, and it dries my hair much more quickly than the standard hairdryer brands I have used in the past. WOW! That was my first impression of this dryer! For years, I have searched for a dryer that was on this level of a salon dryer. I've had this style of dreyer before from another brand that didn't live up to what it promised. This dryer is all it says and more! One of the many features I love is the quiet that comes from using this dryer. I live in an apartment, so with my old noisy dryer 3 a.m. was not a good time to do your hair. This dryer is comfortable, you don't have to sit in some weird way to be completely under the dryer. It drys my hair all over, even in the back which was a problem spot for me. My hair drys in less time, but it's so soothing I stay under until the timer goes off. Yes, it has a timer! I don't think you'll find another salon quality dryer better than this and for the price! Lastly, shipping was exceptionaly fast even with standard shipping.
I would buy this dryer over and over again , I am very happy with my purchase.

I received my dryer last night and couldn't wait to use it. It was fairly easy to assemble and adjust. The hood is very deep so you can set your hair on jumbo rollers and fit very comfortably underneth. The rear of the hood sort of comes out and craddles your neck so it makes it very comfortable for you to sit for your hair to dry properly. I have some what long hair and I was dry within the hour! Unlike my regular hooded dry, which would've taken at least an hour and a half.Best Deals on Beauty Salon Spa Equipment Hair Dryer with Stand Premium Quality
This is the best hair dryer I have ever purchased and I have purchased a few over the years. I have very thick long hair and it would take 2 1/2 hours for me to get my hair dry and I would have to change positions to get the back . Then I tried the soft bonnet dryers and because I had to use large rollers only one side would dry at a time , but this dryer was so easy to put together and when I got under it , I fit with no problem with room!!! I couldn't beleive it and the best part my hair was dry in 50 minutes and it was soft, and it was so low noise , my son asked me twice if it was on. I have been looking so long for a dryer that would give me the same salon look and I have found it.I would buy this dryer over and over again , I am very happy with my purchase.

I purchased this product 15 months ago for my personal use, weekly deep treatments and occassional dryer use, not more than 5 or 6 times per month total. Today, the item would not turn on! I tried all the knobs, other electrical outlets, etc. I called the Seller today and found out they offer no warranty on this item. Other than this, I loved the product and was deeply disappointed that my $100, slightly used dryer was only good for a year, now to be thrown out in the trash. =(Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Beauty Salon Spa Equipment Hair Dryer with Stand Premium Quality
Everything on this dryer is made of good quality materials. The bar that the dryer rests on is heavy duty aluminum. Also, the visor is a great addition so you don't have to bend to remove your head from the dryer. The bell that chimes when the dryer finishes scares the mess out of you until you become accustomed to the dryer. My hair finishes drying in no time when I use this dryer. I love the temperature setting dial, because it is great for those who are trying to monitor the amount of heat one places on the hair. The middle dial controls the fan and how much wind you need to dry your hair, and the last dial controls the time....up to a hour before the timer will alarm. My only complaint was putting it together because the instructions are not very clear, and it took my boyfriend at least 20 minutes to figure things out and put the dryer together. However, I absolutely LOVE this dryer and would never go back to those cheap table top dryers!Cheap Andis Professional Styliner II Personal Trimmer (26700)

This trimmer works very well for me thus far. My skin is extremely sensitive and I bump very easily, but this product has easily kept that under control. It renders a sharp clean cut.
I use it to close shave my head everyday and the blades just aren't close enough. On my previous model, I was able to unscrew the blades and align the cut as close as 0mm. This new model has an "upgraded" blade head that has the blades screwed together. In other words, they aren't adjustable.
The product does display a quality fit and finish however. It just doesn't do (due to mechanical changes in manufacture) what I needed it to.

You can't go wrong with Andis trimmers. I can only shave with these trimmers due to razor bumps and sensitive skin on my face and head. So much so that this is the only trimmer I've used since I was 16. I've tried others they just don't come close to this line and style. Smooth, light, doesn't get hot (of course after an hour of cutting, it should be though), no nicks but cuts close enough that my wife saw the cut and noticed it was considerably closer and my face was smoother. I did mention she's 29 weeks pregnant right, so she notices EVERYTHING!! I've bought other trimmers on here to compare and tried to save a little money but as they say, you get what you pay for. I bought this flat iron what seems like a long time ago, i really liked it at first, and then i stopped appreciating it because i felt like it was burning my hair. The actual truth was that it wasn't burning my hair but that the heat setting i set it on was too high. Now that I use an anti-breakage conditioner before I blow dry and straighten my hair makes all the difference with the finish of this iron. With this iron being thin, it makes it easier to get at the roots of the hair and the ends of the hair at a low enough temperature not to burn your hair. As long as you comb your blow dried hair with a fine tooth comb to get out all of the knots in your hair, then this flat iron should glide through silky smooth! I call this my silk booster, it makes my regular textured hair feel very silky without burning it.I bought this at Target because I needed a smaller, less expensive straightener to travel with. I've owned many flat irons, from cheap ones to $200 ones, and this is one of the worst I've ever used. You don't know when it's fully heated, it pulls at your hair (doesn't glide smooth), and five minutes after straightening, my hair is wavy again, and not the cute kind. I have fine hair but a lot of it, and it is naturally between wavy and curly. I generally can have my whole head done in 10 minutes with other straighteners, but this takes 20+. Gave it 2 stars because it's thin and a cool color.

I have been using this product for 2 to 3 months now, and I can tell you the pros and cons of this product.
Pros
It will give your hair time to relax and grow.I like that and have notice a difference in hair length!
This product is a life saver for women on the go, who have children, but still want to look FIERCE!:)
The product comes right off in the shower or sink. Now they do stand behind that, and I like a product that means what it says ans says what it means.
Cons
I only have one con about this product. Ladies, Ladies, Ladies there is no such thing as a "little bit" with this product. You have to truly saturate your hair or stocking cap with this product! The last time I put in my quick weave, I notice that I was running low on the product and I guess I didn't put enough on the stocking cap. When I went to wash my weave out, I notice that the glue had caught a little bit of my hair. I had to use oil to get it out. My advice to not cut corners with this product. Your investment is your hair!

This is not an project to start at 3:00 pm if you plan to go out at 6:00 pm. Three, I added a second layer of the gro protect in areas where I had concerns about losing hair like my back areas. My mistakes were I think I used too much glue when I was bonding my tracks. When I washed the tracks out you need the water to be as warm/hot as you can stand it. If the water is not warm it will not loosen the glue. The hair does fall out but I had to wash it like 10 minutes at a minimum. Also the hair does not just FALL out, you have to kind of nudge it out but some areas it did just fall out in the sink. But mind you, I used so much glue I think that played a role in it taking so long to wash out. ALso, I still had a little glue balls left in my hair. SO I used Pro Salon glue removing shampoo and I put on a plastic cap, lathered my hair and let is "soak" in for like 1/2 hour. THen I washed it with the shampoo and I used a wide tooth comb and got the remaining glue out. But the hair I lost was not 1/3 of what I would have lost had I not used this gro protect. THis item is WORTH it cause I lost very very very little hair. I Lost the amount of hair I would have lost in daily brushing and combing of my hair. I will continue to use this item. It is easier and worth the money. Next time, I'm going to try and use as little glue as possible and see if my results are better.
UPDATE I have discovered another use of the solution. For those who wear half wigs and can't braid their hair or don't have enough to braid, I gelled my hair back, let it dry and added the grow prot. solution and my hair remained nice and hard unitil I washed it out. I wear my hair back with a headband 1 inch from my edges, you I gel my front straight back, put hair pins to seperate where I do not want to put the GPS,then apply and it really allows you to leave you hair alone even while you are wearing a half wig or full wig. SO this product is good for weaves and wigs.

THIS IS A REALLY GOOD PRODUCT IT DID WHAT IT SAID IT WOULD DO WHICH WAS PROTECT MY HAIR FROM BONDING GLUE. WHEN I TOOK MY WEAVE OUT THERE WAS NO GLUE ON MY HAIR BUT THE CONS WERE THAT I PULLED MY HAIR BACK IN A PONY TAIL AND APPLIED THIS PRODUCT TO MY HAIR AND EDGES. IT PULLED MY EDGES OUT A LITTLE BIT AND ALSO CAUSED LITTLE RED BUT BUMPS ON MY EDGES. BUT IM DOING MY HAIR A 2ND TIME USING THIS PRODUCT AND IT BEST NOT TO PUT ON YOUR EDGES AND WRAP THE HAIR INSTEAD OF PUTTING IN A PONY TAIL. THIS TIME I APPLIED THE PRODUCT TO A STOCKING CAP INSTEAD OF PUTTING IT DIRECTLY ON MY HAIR AND IT WORKED JUST THE SAME AND I DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT MY EDGES COMING OUT. OTHER THAN THAT ITS A GREAT PRODUCT WHICH WILL HELP MY HAIR GROW BACK TO A DECENT LENGHT.Best Deals on Morning Glory Gro-protect Solution 8oz (Blackberry)
I absolutely LOVE this product! I've ALWAYS been afraid to use a bonding application for weaves but I decided to try this product after seeing it in action. It is AMAZING! I usually have someone else install my weaves for me but I used GPS and for the first time did it all by myself! It came out GREAT! Everyone who saw me thought I'd finally cut my hair short & sassy but I hadn't! I used GPS, Salon Pro 30 Second Bonding Glue and a cheap 27 pieces hair pack and I had the most amazing short hairstyle ever! I saved myself $200 doing it myself! Not only that but when it was time to take it down it washed right out! The texture of my hair is even BETTER than before! No one believed that I hadn't cut my hair until they saw me with hair down my back the next month. It was my 2nd weave install with GPS! And it held up beautifully even with the weight of the longer hair. Now I tell everyone about this product. It makes changing my hairstyles as easy as 1-2-3!! I don't worry about damage to my own hair and it helps improve the texture & health of my own hair too!! By the way I found it on Amazon for the lowest price! If your local beauty supply store isn't in contract with a manufaturing and/or supplier you won't get certain products. I can't get this product anywhere in my entire state!Honest reviews on Morning Glory Gro-protect Solution 8oz (Blackberry)
THe key is to follow the instructions. Make sure your hair is fully dry before you add this item. I will tell you my mistakes and my good tips. First off, really make sure your hair is dry before you add this item and before you add your tracks. Second, I did it in a 2 day process if you have to do it in one day, start early in the morning so you are not rushed. This is not an project to start at 3:00 pm if you plan to go out at 6:00 pm. This product is a MUST HAVE when using glue in the hair i.e. a "quick weave". The product does help to nourish the hair while it's molded down. It easily washes out w/ warm water when you're ready to take it off. And best of all it causes no damage to the hair nor any glue to penetrate to the hair shaft. Excellent buy! I'm on a hair journey to grow my hair to BSL (bra strap length), and I have been watching different YouTube channels for tips and hair products to help protect my hair. I decided to try the IC Fantasia Heat Protectant to help protect my hair when I blow dry or flat iron it. I am really satisfied with it so far. My hair doesn't feel fried and crunchy like it used to when I used heat before. But BEWARE, a little goes a LONG WAY. If you section off your hair into 4 or more sections depending on the thickness of your hair; all you need is a dime size drop(or less). Any more and you run the risk of looking greasy and weighed down instead of healthy and shiny.

I am 4B Natural, exactly like the cellist Esperanza Spalding, hair that is soft, cottony, perfect for afros and grows OUT not DOWN, and reverts if there is a drop of moisture in the air, but I'm learning to live with it. Everyone raves about how good the serum is ; and after paying $18.00 for 2 oz of Chi I was leary...So what I did, I bought the IC Serum and the IC spray (check out that review) I used the spray first then the next shampoo and blow dry I used the Serum and I LOVE IT! (ala Oprah hands shaking wildly over my head, and giving everyone a free bottle in the audience). My hair was shiny, silky straight and lasted. Smells nice too.You just need a drop I do a two strand twist and let it dry naturally with some serum. I then press my hair and the product is just fantastic. I did not give it a five because I'm a tough critic.Best Deals on HAIR POLISHER HEAT PROTECTOR STRAIGHTENING SERUM By FANTASIA Serum
This product is very good on my natural 4c hair. Here's how I use it: I wash my hair with coconut milk Organix shampoo and conditioner. Then I section my hair off in about 8 parts and I towel dry every section very well from roots to ends, then apply this heat protector on a section, combing it and brushing it, you'll see your hair stretch more than its natural state, that's what this product does. Once it's fully stretched with the IC protector (using my hand and a brush), I apply some ampro bees wax to the section and stretch it some more with my hands and brush before braiding or twisting that section. I continue with the rest of my hair until I have about 8 fully stretched, big braids. Then, I can either slightly dry my braids using a blow dryer (that's less heat damage compared to blow drying each section), just blowing heat throughout my head, or just let it air dry overnight. The next morning, I undo the braids and voilà! I have very fluffy, curl (or wave) defined hair which I can let loose. Before going to bed every night, make sure you re-braid the hair in sections and make the braids a little tight. The bees wax helps keep humidity out of your hair and reduce shrinkage. It really works! At least for me. Hope this helped!Honest reviews on HAIR POLISHER HEAT PROTECTOR STRAIGHTENING SERUM By FANTASIA Serum
I'm in transition from relax to natural ,and this product works perfect on my thick hair when I use my flat iron. For me it works very well as a heat protector and straightening serum, also makes my hair silky smooth shining and not greasy..

I've been trying to relax my hair only twice a year, my hair was dry, brittle and breaking. I used this after my hot oil treatment and deep conditions. Before I blow dried my hair I felt the difference, it was soft, after the blow dry, i was surprised by how healthy it felt, but when I flat iron it, OMG my hair felt happy and looked and felt like I had a fresh relaxer. I love love love this product, now I can more than stretch my relaxer.Review of Revlon Soft Bonnet Hair Dryer with Storage Case

I received this as a gift and am loving it but, the first time I used it was in the bed and ohhhhhhh my. This thing sounds like a hovercraft. My husband woke up an looked to see what I was doing. I can't seem to get the cool to work either. Compared to my hooded dryer this is a great alternative. Not so sure about use in bed but definitely will travel.

The Revlon soft bonnet hair dryer is what I was looking for. Since I am letting my hair grow out some, I need to roll my hair it is a pain but has a benefit as well I get a little down time. The bonnet is large enough and the air seems to circulate pretty well. It does what I need it to do.Satisfied in Katy
